THE INFERNAL GARDEN - available now via @NineArchesPress and your favourite bookshops. With deep thanks to Declan Ryan for his exhilarating review in @IrishTimes (extract attached) and to Jeremy Wikeley for his equally exhilarating review in @Telegraph back in August.

The first words in Little Griefs are an epigraph from James Merrill. So this news is wonderful and I am very grateful to the spirit of JM and his legacy. 🙏

@MatthewOates76 I saw my first today too, Matthew - flying through and about my garden. They always make my heart leap, but especially the first sighting of the year. (Also, an Oak Beauty moth yesterday.)

Impressive numbers of male Brimstone butterflies today, seen by numerous observers. The females are mostly still abed, hibernating in brambles, ivy etc, but the males seek them out there! Home in where wandering males 'peck' amongst bramble tangles...

On 23 February 1821, John Keats died in Rome at 25. He once wrote: “If I should die… I have left no immortal work behind me…” He was wrong. He wrote poetry that has proved immortal — work that still resonates today. To mark the day share a line of his that has stayed with you.

Mornin' @MatthewMCSmith and all on @TopTweetTuesday today. Great to be back after a bit of a break. My homage is to that maestro of imagism... T.S. Eliot. An extract from my centenary response to The Wasteland set in 2020s Birmingham. Msg me if you're interested in the book 😎
