'HE IS THE GOAT' 🙌 A former NRL flyer has declared Brian To'o as the greatest winger to ever play rugby league. 😮 To'o is a four-time premiership winner, two-time Dally M winger of the year and two-time Brad Fittler Medallist. NRL DAILY 👉 bit.ly/47ggMn9

Watching that Adam Doueihi try again, the board at the @nthqldcowboys may as well just pull the trigger and sack Payten now. The lack of effort on that play (including the lead up) is as bad as it gets. They’re not turning that around quickly. Titans will beat us on Sunday #NRL

From the reports I've seen in 2023 we had Dearden, Gilbert, Nanai & Luki all on less than $200k, Hammer & Drinky on around $250k and Robson & Cotter on less than $400k - that's a tonne of cheap talent As cap room opened we've upgraded Drinky to $750k (while Hammer took $800k from the Dolphins), upgraded Robson to $750k and Cotter to $800k, upgraded Nanai to $550k in 2023 with annual jumps to now $900k, upgraded Luki to $650k, upgraded Dearden to $700k+ Gilbert left for family reasons and we shouldn't have let Hammer go with a year still on his contract Finefeuiaki wasn't even a development player when he debuted for us in 2023, was on the league minimum in 2024 (~$140k) and then got $625k from the Dolphins in 2025 The problem is twofold - we replaced those cheap 2022 deals with guys like Valemei, McIntyre, Edwards, Paulo, Clifford, etc. for similar money to what those young blokes were getting, hence the overall squad quality has dropped and why I say we should focus more on developing juniors than external signings We also had expensive deals like Chad on $800k, we signed Leilua for $750k+ (instead of trusting in Nanai & Luki to develop) and had a back-ended deal for Holmes which peaked at $1.15M as his form deteriorated

Yeah but Jahrome Hughes is also on his third club and won a Dally M, so you can't discount them entirely Some of the clubs best signings have been "journeymen" in that we were there 3rd or 4th club - Paul Rauhihi, Matt Sing, Brent Tate, Willie Tonga, Travis Norton... even Gavin Cooper left us for the Titans & Panthers before eventually coming back But you absolutely shouldn't rely on them to the extent we have in recent years

In regards to the squad - we were successful in 2022 in large part to juniors on cheap contracts playing well above their pay grade This is also exactly how Penrith were able to be so successful for all these years When it came time to resign them, we couldn’t afford to keep them all but didn’t have the juniors to replace them with so went with journeymen and veterans which obviously hasn’t been anywhere near as successful To me, the future success of the club is reliant on juniors developing into first graders and actually getting game time This is why I was so frustrated with the way Kaiden Lahrs was used last year - he should have just been allowed to make some mistakes and play through it, instead he’d get hooked and played 10-15 minutes a game We have talent, but the guys on the bottom 15-30 contracts need to overhauled, which lucky enough we can do this year - problem is there is a lot of competition so we’d still be overpaying… Developing juniors is the key!
