We used to be friends but now most Canadians have been propagandized into really hating the USA in a style that Americans particularly don't like. So there's even added disrespect, and in turn Americans really don't like Canadians right now. I'm an Albertan, hopefully to soon not be a Canadian anymore as our province is trying to secede, but I, somebody who has always loved the USA and their culture am now taking a lot of hate from Americans because of all the foolish Canadians. I hope this helps explain some of the complexity of the situation.
