@lukestamps @IVMiles And the idea that we then need Anglicans to correct us on what "...a historically Baptist understanding is..." in contradiction to our own century-unchanged statement on religious liberty is... well, something.

@IVMiles There is no single "Baptist understanding" of almost anything. This statement has stood virtually unmodified for 101 years. The BF&M isn't perfect but here we stand.

@AriWasserman "Everyone gets mad at Lane, but he's perfectly fine as long as you're letting him whatever he wants, whenever he wants, without any consequences or accountability or care for anyone else involved. Do that, and this is not so dramatic."

Everyone gets mad at Lane Kiffin for leaving, and I understand the resentment. But part of the reason it turned into a major circus was that the man wanted to stay through the CFP run.
On3@On3

NEW: Lane Kiffin to @whalexander_ on not coaching Ole Miss in the CFP after taking the LSU job: “Obviously, I wish the timing was different. There was no way around it. Tried to do everything possible to still coach and, obviously, that was (athletic director Keith Carter’s) decision and understandable. Do I still wish that had happened? Yeah, I do. I wish that would have been allowed to happen. Maybe we would have won it all.” on3.com/news/lane-kiff…

@brianjstultz He makes a passing remark that in no way criticizes fans who are unhappy about it, and you write an entire article about how he's tone deaf and doesn't understand the fans? Step away from the keyboard, my man.

COLUMN: Until now, it seemed that Alex Golesh was starting to understand the Auburn fan base. That went up in the air with his comments on fans being unhappy about the Baylor game being moved to Atlanta. He missed the mark, and likely doesn't realize why. flywareagle.com/alex-golesh-gi…

I'm delighted to share that I've accepted a full-time position as visiting professor of biblical and theological studies at Midwestern Seminary (@MBTS). I'm excited and eager to help train the next generation of pastors alongside an excellent faculty! mbts.edu/profile/bobby-…

Solid group here at Johnson Ferry with @claysmith79 to hear @JoshuaWPowell share his vision for the SBC. Powell will be nominated for President of the convention in Orlando.

I would not use that term: “mere tweeters.” I recognize that there is a sincere difference in how to address the problem, but I don’t think your crew is marked by all talk and no action. That’s not what I’m saying. I just think that all of us should also proactively use the system we have. Anyway, we can continue another time. Have a great Lord’s Day!

Well, this is where you and I disagree. The simple fact that we have so many female pastors (more than a thousand?) among churches affiliated with the SBC is clear evidence in the opposite direction… from my perspective. Indeed, to characterize those who have been working to address this problem as mere “tweeters” rather than reporters and/or motion-makers (as well as other actions in accord with our culture and polity) is one of the main frustrations with those (like me) who actually do more than just tweet and seem unable to affect change.

I feel like I’ve been fairly clear on this. I think wherever there are women pastors, that is a problem. I don’t think the numbers or history bear out that we have an inability to address the problem. I don’t think we have an aversion either. I think we have a system that is underused to address the problem (tweets without CC reports), and at some key times (Newspring) that system has produced a result that undermine trust in its effectiveness. That should be remedied. I do not think that Southern Baptist messengers or the credentials committee have shown an inability or aversion to address the problem when it appears overall.

@griffingulledge @DavidSchrock I appreciate what you’ve said here, but I’m asking if you agree with me that there is a problem in/with the SBC regarding our apparent inability or aversion to addressing this problem virtually anywhere it appears among us.

@marcminter @DavidSchrock The unbiblical practice of women pastors is a problem everywhere it appears. So yes, it is a problem among some SBC churches, and that we should address it through either repentance or exclusion.

@griffingulledge @DavidSchrock I agree with you on this. It would be great to see those with influence and authority in the SBC make some public acknowledgements of the errors and some public efforts to correct them. Can we both agree that the female “pastors” issue is a problem in the SBC?

@marcminter @DavidSchrock My read all these questions is that they make action on the part of the CC easier (eg if the association or state convention has removed them), but are not required to be robust to address obvious error.

@marcminter @DavidSchrock I’ve personally proposed changes to the CC, so you’re not going to see me defending this process as if it is inerrant. But I do think the best originating place for accountability is at the local level, and I think if that fails, we should not hesitate to use the system we have.

You miss the point here, brother. We have a CC which has the commission to deal with convention matters like this. Local pastors ought to be able to assume that the ones responsible are taking care of things. To date, local pastors feel as though they are responsible, and those who should be are only irritated when they take up the responsibility.
