@ReformedStoic I feel this way about pranks and practical jokes which rely on someone trusting the "joker" and being laughed at when that trust is betrayed. It's "just a joke" but it indicates something deeper.

@soupcanarchist @This_Guhy The stalking and harrassment spilling over from online groups into real life is getting quite dangerous. Our increasing reliance on online communications is definitely part of the problem, much more difficult to discern when people cultivate a social media persona.

@GriftianProphet @This_Guhy I've warned my girls, these discord "youth group" chats are not always monitored or sanctioned by the church, they're not populated by clergy. We've had issues with guys showing up at our church looking for the girls

@soupcanarchist @This_Guhy Confessions made in these groups with an expectation of privacy are being used in threats to shame, doxx and even blackmail. Online attacks are timed to coincidence with family crisis, health problems etc leaving the person targeted in a weak position to respond.

@soupcanarchist @This_Guhy That's the part I'm struggling with the most. They target very real, very human, often quite vulnerable people. Many of us were targeted after being raped by strangers or violently abused by male partners and turning to these women's groups for support.

@soupcanarchist Our u25s both male and female are being bombarded with horrific behaviours from people 10+ years older who should know much better, it's designed to turn them (and us) against one another. I can't stand it.

I have young Goddaughters (older teens and 20 somethings) who are on the receiving end of some of this behavior I am less charitable toward it as of late. I think my priest was assuring me that he would not tolerate it. I am having a momma bear moment with this. I think my priest was assuring me that bad behavior toward them wouldn't be tolerated.
