@LLCodyJ@GrilledHAC@mattr262@JomboyMedia He didn’t just touch him. He held the tag on top of the runners shoulder, the runner that was attempting to stand up. He then stopped trying to stand up. Impeded. Thanks for playing
@TalkinStros@LLCodyJ@mattr262@JomboyMedia Authority fallacy? You have literally moved the goalposts to a 2nd wrong statement because your first was completely wrong. You just won’t even admit that much. You lost credibility with your very first comment and you are weirdly trying to save face by arguing another falsehood.
@TalkinStros@LLCodyJ@mattr262@JomboyMedia Do you recognize how ridiculous you sound suggesting the best SS in the game and the son of a long time MLB player doesn’t know the rules all while you invented some fake tag rule that doesn’t exist? It’s pretty fascinating watching you operate.
@GrilledHAC@LLCodyJ@mattr262@JomboyMedia The players in these videos are *not* applying tags. They are faking the entire thing. Applying tag explicitly refers to physically touching the runner, like Witt. Notice that they don’t touch the player at all, ask yourself why?
(It’s because they know the obstruction rules)
2 points about common comments:
1. Can fake a tag in MLB and NCAA. Not high school.
2. At no level is "touching" a runner considered to be a violation.
@TalkinStros@mattr262@JomboyMedia All manner of contact? You can’t be serious with this. Something so black and white should surely be in the rule book, right? Again….its not. You’ll find they can’t impede progress. Which is hard to do when you are tagging from the base path behind the runner.
@GrilledHAC@mattr262@JomboyMedia All manner of contact with a runner is ruled to be impeding them when you don’t have the ball, even contact initiated by the runner when there is any remote justification that the fielder was in the way. It’s fine if you don’t think it is an impediment, obviously the ump didn’t
@TalkinStros@LLCodyJ@mattr262@JomboyMedia You originally said you couldn’t even apply a tag. You were wrong. You are still wrong. You can hold a tag all you want if you don’t impede. You didn’t know the rule, argued otherwise, and now you keep digging deeper. This is a serious character flaw man. Do better.
@LLCodyJ@GrilledHAC@mattr262@JomboyMedia I would suggest you look at what MLB players typically do in such cases, and it is decidedly not holding on the runner precisely because faking a tag attempt is legal but physically holding a tag isn’t. Here is a good example of how this most often looks: youtube.com/shorts/QBurdVw…
@TalkinStros@mattr262@JomboyMedia Unless you think he’s just going to inexplicably run back to 2nd….its from behind. You know how it’s a fact and not just an opinion that it isn’t “delaying or preventing” him? It’s because he never makes even the slightest attempt to move. You’re wrong. Just admit it. My God.
@GrilledHAC@mattr262@JomboyMedia He isn’t tagging from behind, he’s holding the tag on top of the runner’s shoulder. Again, you are welcome to disagree on whether such an action is “delaying or preventing someone”, I think it quite clearly is and others think different. Judgement calls.
@TalkinStros@mattr262@JomboyMedia It’s easier to just admit you didn’t know the rules you said you can’t apply a fake tag. You were wrong. You absolutely can and it happens a lot. You just can’t impede a runner which no one with any brain cells would say Witt did.
@GrilledHAC@mattr262@JomboyMedia Read the obstruction rule. The reason touching the player violates it is specifically the language about not impeding the runner when the fielder is not in possession of the ball. Faking a tag attempt doesn’t violate this because you aren’t impeding the runner.
@mattr262@RonPearemy@JomboyMedia That doesn’t say you can’t apply a fake tag. It says you can impede. Go back and read my original comment and explain how Witt tagging from behind on a stationary runner is impeding. This isn’t hard.
Bobby Witt Jr. high IQ fake tag to likely save a run. May not matter, has been done before, but still to fool Herrera on a throw that wasn't even close .. well played.
@GrilledHAC@mattr262@JomboyMedia You can’t apply a tag without the ball. An actual deke would involved faking a tag attempt, but here Witt appears to simply put the tag on as normal just without the ball. Rule violation if he touched him
@mattr262@JomboyMedia That’s not how it works. Only an idiot thinks that a fielder applying a tag behind him actually impeded his progress to the next base. Especially when he is making no attempt to advance.
