That's messaging, field, comms- all of what makes a DSA campaign look and feel different from others. But when we wait to endorse, we let other organizations and groups fill this void, and our campaigns can revert to just following the received wisdom of liberal consultants.

Member democracy in DSA is precious. It's what separates us from the rest of the organized left, and a big reason behind our success. When the NPC majority rejects an all-member poll for the biggest decision in our history, I question the majority's commitment to democracy.

The NPC taking away our members’ right to vote while NYC-DSA members send them ~ $2M per year in dues.

A presidential campaign has the potential to change DSA’s trajectory, but not without risk. Allowing the NPC to make this consequential decision undermines our democracy, the 2027 Convention presents the only democratic opportunity to decide on existential questions we face.

The later we endorse, the less we can assert ourselves as an independent force and will be stuck tailing progressive groups and nonprofits on the campaign.
If you want DSA to influence the platform, policies and rhetoric of the 2028 election, endorsement has to happen early.
