Blurb / Intro to WIP #1. ------- Good Science Fiction asks, “What if?” Good Fantasy asks, “Why not?” This story says, “Take my hand…” Man on the edge. World on the cusp. Can love survive? In the time before, when the Night cared little and her priesthood cared less, her priests were taken from us by a plague the Night would not cure. For generations the faithful cried for a leader the Night would not provide. Leaders the Church did not give. Leaders whose wars showed they were not true. Leaders whose eyes beheld only power and control. Except for those who did not wish to lead.  Lovers who saved the world. This is their story.  Their Purrspectives.

As I have pointed out before: 1. Men define rape as coerced sex. 2. Women define rape as sex that makes them feel bad afterwards, i.e., sex that they regret. It's important to understand that while our legal systems only recognizes the first, women regularly attempt to impose the second.

Convincing a girl that you love her just to have sex and dump her is very rapey btw

@GrumpyMuzzle I understand😊 Tokyo and Osaka are exciting, but they are only one side of Japan. Small towns, quiet streets, and local daily life show a very different kind of Japan.

This is not the Japan on travel posters. Real Daily Life in Japan #3 A small town street in Japan. No famous temple. No big city lights. No tourist crowds. Just houses, narrow roads, local shops, vending machines, utility poles, bicycles, and quiet everyday life. For many Japanese people, this kind of place feels completely normal. But maybe this is the Japan many people wanted to see. Machi(町) = town

@GrumpyMuzzle Let me know when you learn the real Magic. As I recall the girl’s first spell was Mind Control so she could make her parents buy all her D&D stuff.

In the 1980s there was an attempt to destroy tabletop roleplaying games! The claim was that it caused teen suicides. The proof? A kid that played D&D killed himself, so his mom founded a group named BADD (Bothered About D&D) named either in homage or mockery of MADD (Mad About Drunk Driving). The kid who died was also up on charges of grand theft auto, which is incredibly sad, but kind of weakens the idea it was D&D. Most of the focus was on D&D because that's the only RPG that most people had ever heard of. (Side thought - how much more appropriate would Stranger Things have been if the kids had played Call of Cthulhu?) But the people running BADD barely knew about Traveller, Call of Cthulhu, or GURPS. Few articles targeted my games. I did get an occasional mention in a BADD-sponsored editorial. My favorite epithet (repeated several times) was that Call of Cthulhu was "crueler and darker than D&D" so I'll always have that to treasure. 1/2

Someone asked me about shirako, so let me answer honestly. If you come to Japan in winter, you might see this food. I like it. But I get why many people stop at the visual. It is white, soft, and not exactly beginner-friendly. Even in Japan, some people love it and some people will not touch it. So if you try shirako for the first time, my advice is simple. Start with tempura. Do not start with shirako ponzu. Shirako tempura is much easier. The outside is crispy. The inside is creamy. And because it is fried, you do not have to think too hard about what you are eating. Eat it hot with a little salt or tentsuyu. If you like it, try shirako ponzu next time. If you still cannot handle it, that is fine too. Some Japanese foods are amazing. But first, they ask for courage.

Maybe the Japan people really want to see is not famous. Thank you for all the answers. Many people said they want to see small towns in Japan. When I say “small towns,” I don’t only mean deep countryside. I mean ordinary local places where people actually live: quiet streets small stations local shops houses supermarkets rice fields everyday life Machi(町) = town I’m excited to start sharing this with you.

On another note, remember when your dungeon master taught you how to cast REAL SPELLS?! I'm still waiting, Steve. WHERE ARE MY SPELLS? About this same time a neighbor was talking to me (who didn't know what I did for a living) and showed me a picture of the Smurfs dancing around a star, which he claimed was a pentagram. "Do you want your kids seeing this Satanic stuff?" He asked, sternly. He knew I went to a church. So let me warn you all to stay away from those Smurfs. Clearly a threat. 2/2

In Japan, there are two food cultures. Same country. Same language. Same rice. Completely different taste. One is Tokyo. Darker broth. Stronger soy sauce. Sharper flavor. The other is Kansai. Lighter broth. More dashi. Softer flavor. Both delicious. And the country has been quietly arguing over which one is better forever. This is not a joke. Ask Japanese people about udon broth, and suddenly it becomes a serious conversation. Tokyo side says: → Kansai food is too light → dark soy sauce has depth → strong flavor is satisfying Kansai side says: → Tokyo food is too salty → dashi should be the main character → if the soup is black, something went wrong The easiest battlefield is udon. In Tokyo, the broth is dark. In Kansai, the broth is light. Foreigners look at both and think, “It’s just noodles.” No. This is not just noodles. This is identity. This is childhood memory. This is hometown pride. Japan does this with everything. Kanto vs Kansai. Tokyo vs Osaka. Dark broth vs light broth. Strong soy sauce vs elegant dashi. And here’s the thing. Japan can build bullet trains, robots, anime, cars, and some of the most advanced technology in the world. But we will still argue for 30 minutes about whether udon soup should be dark or light. I love this country.
