@GrumpyRetired

Retired policy wonk, frustrated artist, optimist (mostly), and merciless troller of “New” Conservatives (I knocked on doors for Peter Lougheed you dweebs)!

I'm changing insurance carriers and one of the questions they ask you now, along with stuff like "do you play any dangerous sports" "do you live in a flood zone", is "do you have a large social media presence" The insurance market is now pricing in a Posters Premium

@tylerrdawson I care deeply about this issue but when can we get back to hammering the government on the healthcare file writ large? I can’t help but think this is a planned diversion and the UCP is not risking a single vote by keeping it on the front page.

For what it's worth, and this is a truth generally, not just with the present debate, since I'm not taking a side here: What polls tell us people believe — or say they believe to pollsters — generally has zero bearing on whether that thing is true or good.
Chris Selley@cselley

It's activist journalism. No other term for waving away as irrelevant or disgusting what 80-90% of your readers think. There's nothing wrong with activist journalism! But many activist journalists tend to get very upset when it's suggested they're doing activist journalism.

The Canadian city of Edmonton has laid out its plans to become a 15 minute city. You will not be able to eat, shop, or go wherever you please without paying a toll to pay for the infrastructure of making this Orwellian nightmare even remotely feasible. The only way to implement it is to install even more surveillance, boundaries, and restrictions on movement. It’s a means to control how you live your life. Dystopia is coming soon to a city near you.

@CaulfieldTim Among my circle of friends (some of whom have become hesitant) it would help enormously if someone would publish an accessible chronology/history of how science managed (or didn’t) during the pandemic. An alarming number of folks believe the virus just “went away”.

Is Vaccination Approaching a Dangerous Tipping Point? jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/… "We believe that the best way to counter the current large volume of vaccine misinformation is to dilute it with large amounts of truthful, accessible scientific evidence." "Vaccination is one of the most highly effective public health interventions, responsible for saving millions of lives each year." by Dr. Peter Marks & @DrCaliff_FDA via @JAMA_current

Maple leaf makes it look like the sick message is F - Canada. Would view it the same way if it said F-Poilievre. I live on the prairie. My friends/neighbours are mostly conservative. I think of myself as one. They would question my character if they saw that trash on my vehicle.

Every time I see one of these I form an immediate negative opinion towards the owner. It’s the profanity that offends me. It’s like a slap in the face.

Dr. Ruediger Dahlke is a renowned figure in the field of holistic and transformative medicine. He has dedicated over three decades to developing the philosophy of transformative medicine, which emphasizes the idea that illnesses often originate in the mind. This approach suggests that understanding and exploring symptoms, rather than merely suppressing them with medication or surgery, can lead to improved health and personal growth. As a doctor and a prominent faculty member of the Certificate in Transformative Medicine program offered by the Center for a New Mainstream, Dahlke is deeply involved in teaching and promoting these concepts. He co-founded the TamanGa Retreat Center in Austria and the Dahlke Healing Center in Germany, where he leads numerous workshops. In a recent interview, Dahlke discussed the significance of natural methods in boosting the immune system with natural methods. He emphasized the importance of the right frequencies for regeneration and mentioned the FrequenCell Energy Cells (VitalField.com / @VitalFieldTech ) as a convenient way to address pain and inflammation non-invasively, non-chemically, and without side-effects. Dahlke is also a prolific author, having written 60 books that support and elaborate on his philosophy. His works, such as "Illness as a Pathway", "Medicine and Humanity", "The Body as a Mirror of the Soul", and "Sickness as a Symbol", delve into various aspects of holistic health, including the psychological interpretation of diseases, fasting, aggression, and veganism. His books, which have been translated into 24 languages, explore themes like the connection between physical ailments and emotional states, offering insights into female health and the symbolic language of illness. Through his extensive writings and teachings, Dr. Ruediger Dahlke has made a significant impact in the field of holistic health and transformative medicine, advocating for a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection and the role of mental and emotional factors in physical health.

@martynschmoll You lost me at “push them through regardless”. Last time I checked we still lived in a democracy. Try using convincing argument.

Residents shouldn’t get an up/down vote on bike infrastructure. Yes, sure, go to them for deep local knowledge - location for loading zones, accessibility, etc. - to help them shape the project but not for permission to install it. Leaders need to push it through regardless.
Sarah@Henryz_mom

Is soliciting public input on a bike lane from those who live on the route inherently biased against it? Nearly everyone who will benefit lives elsewhere and these people aren’t consulted. Thanks in advance for insights and opinions.
