Do you like syntactic theory, ACT-R, priming and/or parsing? Would you like to hear about a cognitive model that is NOT a neural network or a language model? Come to my talk at CoNLL tomorrow (11-12:30 session) where I will present work with @tallinzen! arxiv.org/abs/2403.07202

I am at #ACL2024 and will be presenting joint work with @forrestdavis at the TeachingNLP workshop. The talk is on Aug 15 11:45 am in Lotus Suite 11. I would also love to grab coffee or meals with folks to chat about computational psycholing, SLACs, or life generally.

I enjoyed reading this paper! Helpful distinction between an NLP engineer and an "NLP scholar" who should be literate in the technology but isn't interested in or equipped to become an engineer - relevant to students at research universities as well aclanthology.org/2024.teachingn…

@shaily99 I also thought it was maybe cause it’s elongated but the Devanagari script says otherwise (same spelling for both in the bottom right of original pic)! The running hypothesis is numerology or some preference bc family members also pointed out the same thing in Kabhi Kabhie

Soo this came up in my Prime video recommendations (keep trying Prime..) but I noticed something for the first time. Why the two different spellings for “kabhi” and “kabhie”??

Can LMs serve as cognitive models of human language processing? Humans make syntactic agreement errors ("the key to the cabinets are rusty"). @sArehalli and I tested if the errors documented in six human studies emerge in LMs. They... sometimes did. direct.mit.edu/opmi/article/d…

For the Bayes-curious: There are still some places open for my one-week long introduction to Bayesian statistics (specifically aimed at (psycho)linguists) using brms/Stan at the Gent summer school in July 2024: mils.ugent.be/courses/module…

@ShravanVasishth @tallinzen Not sure if the space between psycho and linguistics was intentional.. but love it! (It was actually Computation And Psycholinguistics iirc and sad we never made CAP caps)
