Ce mardi 26 novembre 2024, j’ai eu l’honneur de rencontrer Mme Alison August Trepel, Secrétaire Exécutive du Comité Interaméricain contre le Terrorisme (CICTE)@OEA_oficial @OEAHaiti @OEA_CICTE Cette rencontre a permis d’aborder des sujets d’une importance cruciale pour le renforcement des capacités des forces de sécurité haïtiennes, en particulier la Police Nationale d’Haïti (PNH) et les Forces Armées d’Haïti (FAD’H). Les discussions ont porté sur des domaines stratégiques tels que la lutte contre la cybercriminalité, le contrôle et la sécurisation des frontières, la lutte contre le financement du terrorisme, la prévention de la prolifération des armes et des groupes criminels, ainsi que les programmes de formation et d’assistance technique. Cette collaboration s’inscrit dans le cadre des efforts continus visant à renforcer la sécurité et la stabilité en Haïti, avec l’appui du système interaméricain.

Le gouvernement de transition, à travers son Président, Son Excellence Leslie Voltaire, a clairement fait savoir que seul un changement d’architecture – passant par une mission de maintien de la paix – permettra de restaurer durablement l’ordre public. Cette transformation n’est pas seulement une demande d’Haïti, mais une nécessité stratégique pour prévenir une aggravation de la crise humanitaire et sécuritaire aux répercussions régionales. The transitional government, through its President, His Excellency Leslie Voltaire, has made it unequivocally clear that only a structural change — transitioning to a peacekeeping mission — can sustainably restore public order. This transformation is not only Haiti’s request but a strategic necessity to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian and security crisis with regional repercussions. I received this morning the Ambassador, Permanent Observer of 🇮🇹 Roberto Nocella to the #OAS Wa reaffirmed a shared commitment to promoting peace and stability in Haiti and globally. We both expressed optimism about the potential for enhanced bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Today, members states to the #OAS adopted by acclamation the resolution requesting the change of the mission in a UN mission. @OAS_official @UN. Haiti’s future is closely tied to the stability of our hemisphere. By working hand-in-hand to transform the MSSM into a United Nations mission, we are not only strengthening security in Haiti but also contributing to peace and security throughout the region.

As part of the 55th special session of the OAS General Assembly on November 1, 2024, Ambassador Gandy Thomas spoke on Haiti’s position, advocating, among other things, that humanity should be at the heart of all budgetary measures. The budget resolution was adopted with 31 votes in favor, 1 against, and 1 abstention. Dans le cadre de la 55e session extraordinaire de l'Assemblée générale de l'OEA, ce 1er novembre 2024, l'Ambassadeur Gandy Thomas s'est exprimé sur la position d'Haïti en défendant entre autres que l'humain soit au cœur de toutes les mesures budgétaires. La résolution sur le budget a été adoptée à 31 voix Pour, 1 voix Contre, et 1 Abstention.

Resolution on the Eradication of Poverty ADOPTED BY ACCLAMATION TODAY AT THE OAS It is crucial to recall the correlation between “extreme poverty” and the “development model” adopted. Standardized approaches, often advocated by international financial institutions, reveal their limitations when confronted with the diversity of our realities. A universal model cannot meet the specific needs of each state, whose histories, cultures, and socio-economic challenges vary. For development to be effective, it must take into account the national specificities of each country.
