@Guiseppim

There's seldom a solution if the problem is profitable.

@EddiCurrent @SengaAllan1 @LesleyRiddoch The "free stuff" the SNP provide is all devolved. Great. The stuff that ISN'T devolved is managed by WM for the benefit of the UK, including Scotland. Like ENERGY. What have they done to enormous energy excess Scotland? Made Scots the most fuel impoverished people in Europe...

@Guiseppim @danishnuclear OK so you simply don’t understand, so I’ll solve for you: HPC is the most expensive nuclear power plant ever constructed. It is not the average, not the median of construction costs. Using HPC is either statistically illiterate or intentionally deceptive. Tertium non datur.

Watched HIGNFY tonight for the first time in years. Pathetic, smug individuals sniggering about those who are not left wing. Sad It used to be funny 🙄

@scepticpost @dm180914 @scotgov @theSNP I'm voting SNP, because I know Energy, including Oil & Gas, is reserved to WM and no matter how much fossil fuels are extracted from the North sea, Scots will remain in the worst fuel poverty in Europe whilst we are still attached to the UK government that won't change it...

@dm180914 St Fergus is the next SNP target for closure as UK gas production is stopped. Scotland under the SNP the only Country in the World to wilfully destroy its own Oil and Gas industry. Vote tactically to get Swinney’s corrupt SNP out in May @scotgov @theSNP

@danishnuclear Renewables make huge profits in the current broken UK system the gov refuses to fix. The artificial and forced profits are taxed straight to the exchequer, rather than used to improve the energy grid and/or reduce our bills... x.com/Guiseppim/stat…
Míng Kerr⊗Normalist@Guiseppim

@thalesnemo @JimBowersclimb @danishnuclear The UK grid is failing to upgrade to transport renewable energy. What that means, is turbines are being paid to shut off, and gas switched on, because the grid can't cope. Additionally, Gas sets prices, which means renewables are making huge profits, which UK gov taxes...

@thalesnemo @JimBowersclimb @danishnuclear They're right. It's all smoke and mirrors, and the extreme renewables profits end up in the exchequer... x.com/Guiseppim/stat…

@mpweiher @danishnuclear It's one of the UK's current builds, so I fail to see how it is not relevant. Perhaps it is you who are not relevant, just picking over the same scab?

@mpweiher @danishnuclear It's likely an average figure. UK Hinkley point C is around that adjusted for inflation (2 x size of reactor). Costs are spiralling upward tho, probably linked with rising costs in general.

@danishnuclear @Guiseppim bloomberg.com/news/features/… Also the turbine blades (the parts of them that has not already been scattered in nature / the ocean as microplastics) can not be recycled. This is a problem that is about as unsolved as nuclear waste - with the difference that nuclear waste can be used.

@Markus47076832 @danishnuclear I've provided the UK gov's figures on (some of) the enormous clean up costs associated with nuclear that are generally not included in commissioning and installation estimates. How more honest do you want? If you want to prove your point, find out if wind has similar huge costs.

@Guiseppim @danishnuclear Add it all up - if you want to make a global calculation, include all costs that are associated with the actual technology suggested. I am tempted to bet actual money that you will choose not to present such calculation very honestly.

@Guiseppim @danishnuclear Calculate how many turbines you need to generate the same lifetime energy output. Then calculate at which electricity price point you can actually sell electricity. Then - to make it fair - calculate the cost of decomissioning both power plants. That would make it comparable.

@danishnuclear Things go wrong with nuclear power stations, with additional costs stretching what could be centuries into the future. Plus we can't assume dumping depleted uranium in "stoneage ME" countries is a sustainable habit. Now include that in your costs...

@Guiseppim A nuclear reactor can last 80-10 years and have a capacity factor over 90%. Windturbines last 20-25 years and have a capacity factor of 30-45% Now try to include this in your costs 😀

@RagnarDanhammer @danishnuclear It's way cheaper, and always has been. If the UK gov focussed on the right balance of hydro/battery storage and grid upgrades to transport renewable energy (billions wasted annually just there), it would still work out far cheaper than nuclear. x.com/Guiseppim/stat…
Míng Kerr⊗Normalist@Guiseppim

@danishnuclear The cost to install 200 15MW (3000MW) turbines is about $6B (upper end). Could get 1,000 (15GW) for same cost as a 1750MW Nuclear plant @ $30B. That's not including decommissioning / decontamination costs in the case of nuclear. Matched with hydro/battery storage, choice is obvs.
