@daviwil Yes, it supports this use case (that was one motivation), with the usual caveat when running pre-built binaries: those binaries must target compatible application binary interfaces (ABIs).

Rust is "bootstrapped" in #Guix, a fancy way of saying Rust and its dependencies are all built from source (unlike on other distros). It's a significant effort though: guix.gnu.org/en/blog/2018/b… ... and now it's in the Linux dependency graph.

Inclusion of Rust into the kernel complicates this process. Previously we only needed GCC. But now you would need clangd, llvm and a couple of different Rust versions as well.
