I samtale med vår sønn i dag ,som leier ut hus til 2 familier fra Ukraina . De har nå bodd 1 år i Norge . Begge familiene har alle lært seg Norsk ,fått jobber og godt etablert i nærmiljøet . Så er det folk fra andre land, som har bodd her i 20 år ,å ennå ikke snakker Norsk .. 😵‍💫

Ja, studier viser at utilstrækkeligt højkvalitets protein (især animalsk) hos ældre øger risikoen for sarkopeni og dermed kortere levetid. Grebsstyrke er en velvalideret markør for mortalitet – lavere styrke korrelerer med højere dødelighed. 1,0-1,2 g protein/kg kropsvægt dagligt anbefales for at modvirke det, og kød er en effektiv kilde pga. bedre aminosyreprofil og optagelse end de fleste plantekilder.

Så meget er 80 gram oksekød. Det er den mængde oksekød plejehjemsbeboere i København må få. Ikke om dagen, men om ugen. For klimaets skyld. Det har Københavns Kommune bestemt. Når man kommer på plejehjem, har man typisk et år tilbage at leve i. Men Københavns Kommune mener, at dette er det helt rigtige tidspunkt at påtvinge borgerne nye spisevaner. Danskerne spiser typisk 300 gram oksekød om ugen – altså næsten 4 gange mere end den ration, plejehjemsbeboerne bliver tilkendt. Dette formynderi bør stoppe. Plejehjemsbeboere har typisk betalt skat hele deres liv ud fra den forventning, at velfærdsstaten tager sig dem, når de får brug for de. De fortjener pleje og omsorg, ikke formynderi.

Der er ikke ét fast "optimalt" gramtal for kød – det afhænger af kropsvægt og samlet kost. For ældre anbefales 1,0-1,2 g protein pr. kg kropsvægt dagligt (f.eks. 70-84 g for en 70 kg person) for at modvirke sarkopeni og bevare muskelmasse. Kød som oksekød giver ca. 20-25 g protein pr. 100 g og er en meget effektiv kilde. Proteiner fra grøntsager har lavere bio-tilgængelighed, dårligere fordøjelighed og ofte manglende essentielle aminosyrer sammenlignet med animalske proteiner fra kød. De kræver kombination og større mængder for samme effekt.

VideoLAN has released a new open-source tool called dav2d. It is a CPU-based decoder for AV2 video, AV2 is the next open video format after AV1 and promises better compression and higher quality. dav2d is based on VideoLAN’s popular dav1d decoder for AV1, works on many platforms and focuses on being fast and correct. The code is now public on VideoLAN’s GitLab site. This is an early project because the full AV2 standard is not finished yet.

I was a night owl until I fixed my diet, went to the gym, started going to bed at consistent times, and hit 5-10,000 steps a day early in the day. It's easy to be a night owl with a messed-up lifestyle, and it's easy to have a messed-up lifestyle when working in an office these days. The office pays my bills, but goddammit, I hate it.

I'd say by far the #1 priority for "optimizing your sleep" is finding out your genetic chronotype. You can fight your circadian rhythm a little, but it's hard & not required for most. If you're a night owl, be a night owl. Don't fight biology.

I've spent my whole life trying to understand why Africa is the poorest region in the world. Low IQ. Malnutrition. Lack of education. Colonialism. Racism. Laziness.  I've heard every explanation. None of them made sense. If it’s colonialism, why was Ethiopia (never colonized) for a long time the poster child for African poverty? Why was Botswana, which was colonized, one of the best performers in Africa? And why is Singapore richer than its former colonizer? If it's lack of education, why are half of African university graduates unemployed? Why were math degrees from Eswatini raising chickens before we hired them to teach at our virtual school? The real answer is something nobody wants to talk about:

I’ve been cautious about GLP-1 medications. One of my primary concerns has been the loss of fat free mass (ie, muscle). But I was wrong. The paper published last week (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41850248/) showed that most of the “fat free mass” that’s lost not only isn’t from muscle, but it’s mostly from shrinking the liver. Ironically, likely partly due to a reduction in liver fat (which gets counted as fat free mass on DXA scans). In fact, muscle strength was completely normal and the muscle:fat ratio was significantly improved. There is still ample reason to be cautious, but the concerns about muscle loss appear to be overblown.

Tesla has now blocked the FSD hack completely in Europe so no one has access anymore. I think they did the right thing. It was an incredible experience. I wasn’t trying to cause any trouble for Tesla or anything like that I was just super excited about the technology I’ve been waiting for forever. I really needed to try it myself. I know some people will probably get mad or say it was dangerous, but honestly, since I’ve gone back to fully manual driving, I feel noticeably less safe on the road. It’s truly exceptional technology. Disclaimer: This hack has now been blocked everywhere in Europe, so these videos are from before the block it’s no longer possible or legal at all.

Elias Mahamed Isaaq Shegow voldtog og dræbte 13-årige Anna Sveistrup. I går faldt dommen: kun fået 12 års fængsel - formentlig med mulighed for prøveløsladelse efter 8 år. Det er mig simpelthen ubegribeligt, at straffen er så mild. Elias har brutalt dræbt en 13-årig pige, ødelagt en familie og efterladt en far og en mor - Malene og Allan - i en ubærlig situation, som de selv beskriver som et “helvede, som vi pga. hans gerning skal leve med resten af livet”. Om muligvis 8 år kan Malene og Allan risikere at møde den mand, som tog deres 13-årige datter fra dem for altid, når de går i Netto for at handle ind. Gerningsmanden, Elias, kan leve sit liv videre og formentlig være ude på fri fod i sine 20’ere, mens 13-årige Anna måtte lade livet, og hendes forældre få et ødelagt liv. Hvor i alverden blev retfærdigheden af!? Hvor er hensynet til ofret, til hendes familie, og til resten af samfundet, som ikke vil se dette kriminelle afskum ude i vores samfund igen? Det gør mig simpelthen rasende at læse om denne uretfærdighed og ligegyldighed over for dem, vores retssystem er sat i verden for at beskytte. For mig at se er det en hån mod de efterladte, at straffen ikke var hårdere og mere proportional. Og nej, det er ikke dommerne, den er gal med. De dømmer bare efter loven. Denne uretfærdighed er en konsekvens af vores perverterede retspolitik, som sætter hensynet til farlige kriminelle - drabsmænd - og deres såkaldte “resocialisering”, over hensynet til ofret, pårørende, samfundet og retfærdigheden. En direkte konsekvens af den svage og perverse retspolitik, som bl.a. Radikale Venstre i årevis har kæmpet for. Ud fra devisen om, at “hårdere straffe virker ikke”, og “det er jo også samfundets skyld, at de begår kriminalitet”. Det er på tide, at vi strammer gevaldigt op. Vi skal vedtage markant stramninger af retspolitikken - langt hårdere straffe for personligfarlig kriminalitet, særligt for drab. Den slags forbrydelser, Elias Mahamed har gjort sig skyldig i, skal selvfølgelig straffes med fængsel på livstid. Vi skal stå på ofrets, de efterladte og retfærdighedens side. Annas forældre, Malene og Allan, burde aldrig gå rundt med tanken om, at de risikerer at støde på deres datters drabsmand en gang i fremtiden.

I lived in Japan for a year. Most of my experiences were exhausting in ways I’d rather not get into, but this one still makes me laugh. I was on the train in Osaka, minding my own business, when I noticed a group of school kids a few seats down. They were whispering, glancing at me, then whispering again. They kept passing a folded piece of paper between them as if they were planning something top secret. I watched this go on for two stops. Finally, one of the kids was pushed forward by the others. He walked over to me slowly, like he was approaching a wild animal that might bite. He stopped right in front of me, bowed politely, and held out the folded paper with both hands. I opened it. Inside was a handwritten note in careful English: “Hello. We think you are a very cool person. We are practicing our English. We hope this note is correct. Please give us a score.” At the bottom, they had drawn a literal grading box, out of ten. I looked up. Seven pairs of eyes were staring at me as if their entire semester depended on my response. I pulled out a pen, wrote “10/10” in the box, and added a note: “Perfect English. Well done.” The boy carried it back to the group. They read it together… and absolutely lost their minds. High-fives, jumping, and one kid even pumped his fist in the air. Their teacher, who had been pretending not to watch from the end of the car, was biting her lip, trying hard not to smile. I rode the rest of the journey grinning to myself. That’s the Japan I always remember.

Salt increases blood pressure (when it does) by attracting water into the blood, increasing the volume of blood pushing out against the blood vessel wall. You can’t replicate this by dumping salt onto isolated endothelial cells because you don’t have an intact blood supply inside a closed lumen. Inflammation responds to this to increase vascular permeability, allowing blood to leak out of the vessels. This lowers blood pressure directly and in the kidney it helps get rid of salt in the urine. If you get sepsis, for example, the inflammation causes low blood pressure. This paper is using vague terms like “endothelial dysfunction” to describe this totally adaptative inflammatory process and then trying to claim that salt doesn’t do anything directly but in fact it’s all driven by inflammation and cellular senescence. This is total nonsense. Salt attracts water. This is basic chemistry with innumerable real-world applications as ancient and basic as drying meat or using salt as an antimicrobial. There is nothing going on fundamentally with this except the transfer of water. Everything else is secondary to this. Potassium ABOLISHES the effect of salt on blood pressure by moving the water into your cells. If it goes in the cells, it doesn’t stay in the plasma. Plasma volume goes down, so blood pressure goes down. But these people are trying to sell an experimental “senolytic” drug navitoclax by claiming that salt acts though some complicated process of cellular senescence to raise blood pressure. But it doesn’t. It raises blood pressure by drawing water into the plasma. Sustained high blood pressure causes senescence to the endothelial cells because high blood pressure is bad for them. The catch: if you draw the water into your cells with a 1:1 ratio of potassium to sodium you hydrate your cells instead of raising your blood pressure. Not because potassium has fancy immunomodulating senolytic gibberish about it but because it moves water to where it belongs.

Salt has been blamed as the culprit for damaging your arteries. A new mouse study puts salt-sensitive hypertension in context. Salt doesn't do it directly, it triggers your immune system to do it. 4 weeks on a high-salt diet (8% NaCl) cut vasodilation by over 20% and spiked senescence markers in blood vessel walls. Pure NaCl did nothing to endothelial cells. The immune cytokine IL-16 alone replicated the full damage. The senolytic (navitoclax) reversed it. Vascular function restored, likely via nitric oxide. The mechanism behind salt-sensitive hypertension may be the immune response salt provokes, and the senescent cells that response leaves behind.
