Today Government of Uganda held a Ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the training facilities for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in 2027 at Makerere University Sports Ground and Gulu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Openjuru, George Ladaah, University Secretary Obol David Otori and Nyeko John the University Bursar were there to witness the ceremony since Gulu University is one of the entities having a sports training facility under this arrangement.@RugyendoQuotes @RuhakanaR

Day two of the AgriFoSe workshop unfolded with a powerful call to action: science must move beyond journals and into the hands of decision-makers. Under the theme Translating Science into Policy and Practice, the session challenged scientists and emerging researchers to rethink the journey of their work from discovery to real-world impact. Renowned journalist Dr. Rugyendo Arinaitwe took the stage with an engaging session on Research Communication vs. Research Translation. Today, we have begun a 3 days training of Translating Science into Policy and Practice. This has been organized by the Regional AgriFoSe2030 from 17th, 18th, and 19th February 2026 @Guluvarsity. This is a collaborative initiative supported by Sida @Sida between the AgriFose2030 @AgriFoSe2030  Programme at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Gulu University (Uganda) and Kyambogo University (Uganda) to support young scientists. The aim of a training is to bridge the gap between research and real-world decision-making. It focuses on helping scientists communicate evidence clearly and effectively to policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders. The workshop promotes evidence-based policy and practice by improving understanding of how research can inform decisions, addressing barriers to uptake, and encouraging collaboration across sectors.

Gulu University, in partnership with Kyambogo University, is hosting a transformative training under the theme AGRIFOSE 2030 – Translating Science into Policy and Practice initiative. Scholars, graduate students, and researchers gathered in Gulu City at Bomah Hotel from across Uganda and beyond. Representatives came from Gulu and Kyambogo, joined by participants from Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda . @kyambogou

In a strategic move to turn academic research into tangible community impact, the Kyambogo University Regional AgriFoSe2030 Hub, in collaboration with Gulu University @GuluVarsity, is set to host a high-level workshop titled "Translating Science into Policy and Practice." Running from February 17th to 19th, 2026, the three-day intensive program will gather bright young scientists at Gulu University. Supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), this initiative is a partnership between the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Kyambogo, and Gulu University.

Today, visitors from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, led by James Onono Ojok, the Public Relations Officer of Gulu University, paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor. The engagement unfolded as a meaningful exchange of ideas and institutional goodwill. Central to the visit Adina-Loredana Nistor, Assistant Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Law. They discussed the role of cultural factors in shaping post-conflict peace strategies. Nistor was particularly interested in examining the effectiveness of reparation programs as mechanisms for fostering reconciliation and social cohesion in societies emerging from conflict.

Gulu University VC is in Belgium with the DVC, total 9 staff from Gulu University and 1 from Mountain of the Moon University, attending the kick-off meeting for IUC project that was granted to Gulu University by VLIR-UOS The team also met with the Ambassador of Uganda in Belgium, Mirjam Blaak Sow later.

Obol David Otori, the Gulu University Secretary said the university is known for winning trophies. " Go when you are determined because sports is not just the physical readiness but you must also prepare mentally, please bring us the deserved Christmas presents “. Otori observed. The University Secretary was speaking during the flagging of the students to the Association of Uganda University Sports Games (AUU) that would be hosted at Uganda Christian University from 19th to 23rd December,2025 from Uganda Christian University (UCU). 67 students are going to participate and the team is being led by Pamela Peace Okwir the Deputy Dean of Student. @GeorgeOpenjuru @UCUniversity
