A film of mine is going to be screened in a cinema for the first time! I was moved to receive an email recently that said my film had been selected for a showcase called Film as Therapy: fitting that the aforementioned film was one I had made to give myself the present of hope.

@Srirachachau Having post-Drive Ryan Gosling play a weak coward, failing to land a single punch and getting his ass handed by the cop in the final Only God Forgives fight was so surprising and subversive. Though it is self indulgent, I have grown to love that movie.

I think Refn is kind of a dumb guy but like many men, I do love Drive and I love the cop who does karaoke in Only God Forgives

@Darren_Mooney Yeah kinda felt the same. Felt more like a Ryan Reynolds movie than a Ryan Gosling movie.

As somebody who quite liked “Project Hail Mary”, it is kinda funny to described the movie as “post-ironic sincerity.” The film is *anything* but sincere. It’s all winking and knowing self-awareness couched in a deep irony. It is deeply afraid of taking or being taken seriously.

One search. Two *very* different results. 😅

@Russell15948097 @WillSloanEsq Cafe Society and Irrational Man still have some good aspects and are quite watchable. It gets trickier when you reach A Rainy Day in New York and Rifkin's Festival 🙈

@WillSloanEsq I admire the dedication and the willingness to take shit. No one made more movies I loved between 1969-1989 and I can’t get through Irrational Man, Cafe Society, and half of work post 2000. Love both podcasts

I don't read a lot of non-fiction usually, but this was such a wonderful book blending history and science and philosophy. There's a lot to learn and unlearn as it tackles the Big Questions and expertly portrays the complexity of human beings and the world around us.
