The Botanical Survey of India proudly shares exciting news—a new species of #wild_kiwi from India has been discovered! 🥝 After extensive field exploration in the rugged terrains of #ArunachalPradesh and detailed taxonomic investigation, scientists have identified Actinidia indica (Actinidiaceae) from the Eastern Himalaya—one of the world’s richest biodiversity hotspots. 🥝The genus Actinidia comprises now ~56 species globally, but only a handful are reported from India, making this discovery particularly significant. 🥝Actinidia indica is a perennial climbing shrub (2–4 m tall) with densely ferruginous tomentose young branches and large ovate leaves. It bears large white to creamy flowers (4–6 cm across)—notably bigger than its closest relatives. 🥝The species produces globose, olive-green fruits (2.5–4 cm) with a unique reticulate pattern of lenticels, a key distinguishing feature for this species. Found at around 1725 m elevation in Lower Subansiri district, it grows along forest edges in association with diverse sub-tropical flora. 🥝This discovery not only enriches India’s flora but also highlights the immense, still unexplored biodiversity of the #EasternHimalaya. 🥝 This plant was discovered by Dr. S.S. Dash, Scientist-F and in-charge, Technical Section, Headquarters, Kolkata, Dr. Umeshkumar L. Tiwari, Scientist-D, and Mr. Rohan Maity, Senior Preservation Assistant, Central National Herbarium, Howrah. 🥝 The findings have been published in the reputed journal Feddes Repertorium doi.org/10.1002/fedr.7… 👏We congratulate the team for their dedication and scientific excellence. Their work reinforces the importance of taxonomy in uncovering and conserving our rich natural heritage. #NewDiscovery #ScientificDiscovery #Research #ScienceNews #BreakingScience #NewSpecies #SpeciesDiscovery #BiodiversityDiscovery #ScienceCommunity #EasternHimalaya #ArunachalPradesh #NortheastIndia #himalayanbiodiversity

Proud to Announce the Launch of Our Policy for Empanelment of Certified Environmental Professionals It gives me immense pleasure to share a significant milestone in our journey toward strengthening environmental governance in Punjab—the launch of the Policy for Empanelment of Certified Professionals (Empaneled Environmental Engineers). This initiative represents a landmark step in creating a transparent, structured, and technically robust framework for environmental compliance across the state. Through this policy, we aim to: ✅ Establish a credible mechanism that ensures timely, unbiased, and scientifically sound approvals, assessments, and monitoring. ✅ Cover a wide spectrum of critical environmental regulations—including the Water and Air Acts, as well as rules governing hazardous waste, plastic waste, biomedical waste, e-waste, and construction & demolition waste. ✅ Reaffirm our unwavering commitment to clean air, safe water, and a healthier environment for all citizens. The empaneled Environmental Engineers will play a pivotal role in assisting industries—particularly those in the white, green, and orange categories—by: 🔹 Preparing and verifying applications 🔹 Ensuring adequacy of pollution control systems 🔹 Certifying compliance and facilitating on-ground inspections 🔹 Guiding industries towards cleaner technologies, waste minimization, and energy efficiency This policy goes beyond regulatory compliance. It reflects a collaborative approach, enabling industries to adopt sustainable practices without delays, while safeguarding the environment through professional integrity and accountability. Key safeguards—such as clear eligibility criteria, inspection protocols, accountability measures, and grievance redressal mechanisms—will ensure fairness and transparency throughout. This policy is a testament to our Board’s forward-looking vision. It recognizes that industrial growth and environmental protection are not opposing objectives—they are deeply interconnected and mutually reinforcing. I firmly believe that this is more than just administrative reform. It is a step toward building trust, encouraging responsible industrial practices, and setting a benchmark for environmental governance that others may follow.
