I am glad to see this convo, but I really am hoping there are activities happening behind the scene that common people are not privy to. - I do think we need to get specific and actionable on what exactly “supporting the Iranian people” mean. If we are looking for a regime-change public policy from US, I highly doubt that it will happen (unlike Israel’s). - So far in this war, the best opportunity we had was right before the ceasefire, for about a week, when Israeli’s drones were micro-hitting the streets and the regime’s thugs went to hiding and they were separated (much easier to be taken over by unarmed people). - I don’t think we can loose those opportunities again, but I do think there needs to be a tactical “plan” and to be shared with Iranians inside via all the available Satellite TVs / Radios (since majority don’t have internet still) and other secretive methods. - I am agreeing with Mark that Iranians on street need to be able to defend themselves. But arming the separatists groups is NOT it. There are plenty of guns on the streets (in the local mosques or small places where the regime’s thugs are hiding, or in the basiji’s homes on the local street). Sorry it went long - Just my 2 cents 🙂 #FreeIran‌

The regime murders Iranians everyday. The international community’s silence is shameful.

This is a total BS @hughhewitt and you know it. We all have biases towards our beliefs, but I think these are the moments which we need to speak to the truth. So please don’t do this - if you want to stay silent, I understand; but please don’t justify something that you know is wrong. It washes away and normalizes the crimes of the Islamic Republic murders.

Friends: @Pontifex is new to the job. He’s a Boomer American Catholic who has spent next to zero time on national security issues around the world. I doubt there were serious courses on the Iranian revolution in Seminary and it occurred after his college years. His life has been devoted to serving the poor and the Church. He inherited Francis’ Vatican and while it is obvious he knows as much about the Islamic Republic as I do about the Rule of St. Augustine, it is not too much to ask for patience while he settles into the new job.

The regime’s attacks this week on our Navy and multiple attacks on our allies are indicators that the only language the regime understands is strength - and requires more than equal response. In the middle of negotiations, the fact that they feel they have the upper hand by attacking our Navy, it tells me that whatever they agree to, it has no meaning to them. So I think the response needs to be more than sinking their fast boats and drones. It requires some level of future deterrence. It doesn’t mean destroying everything and infrastructure, but I think we can come up with something in between - like the remaining IRGC leaders or the clergy who are hanging the people daily.

Agreed. We need to change strategy and get rid of this terrorist regime once and for all, who has taken the world hostage for decades. We can deal with higher gas prices for a while Mr. President - but can’t deal with this regime remaining in place. If we don’t complete the job and sign some kind of a deal, then we spent billions and lives our beloved American soldiers for something incomplete.
