@DrAnnieHickox @tillytog01 Because they aren't anti psychiatry - they're anti medication, if it's psychotherapy it doesn't matter what woo woo bullshit you do, but prescribing medication? You're the devil now. They are bad faith actors and ceding ground to them is counterproductive.
English

@tillytog01 Easier (and lazier) to demonise psychiatrists they claim to have eschewed than it is to demonise the GPs they will inevitably be obliged to call upon intermittently.
But why do therapists get off so lightly?
English

But let’s blame the psychiatrists for overdiagnosis and overprescribing anyway.

@Jam1377 @thinkingshivers @KirkegaardEmil But those are a minority of the clinical population. You're getting a broad mixture of SUD, Personality pathology, mood disorders, trauma disorders, essentially a large soup of people who are very much not treatment resistant, rather lack access to adequate treatment.
English

@Jam1377 @thinkingshivers @KirkegaardEmil Do u remember who got rid of the federal funding for mental hospitals (hint it wasn't a democrat). Also, it's frankly incorrect to say that half of the psychiatric population needs to be permanently institutionalized. Some, yes, severe treatment resistant psychotic disorders.
English

@thinkingshivers @KirkegaardEmil Now, clinical psychology, that field is completely dominated by women. I just find it annoying that people conflate two very different fields with very different pathways (PsyD/ PhD vs MD)
English

@thinkingshivers @KirkegaardEmil It's very hard to maintain a right wing stance, socially, when you see people ground up and forgotten by the system we exist in & perpetuate (this isn't a moral judgement on the nature of American capitalism, just a basic observation.) Unless you've been there you don't get it.

@JRBneuropsiq Animal cognition is something I used to look at quite deeply, because the critters around us are far smarter than we give them credit for. If you want a real shock, check out what ceti is putting out! pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12…

one of the funniest things about looksmaxxing is how they true to systematize aesthetics through calculations. its a problem because a belief that beauty isnt generated in a perceiver, but rather works according to some Perfect Externality, is really stupid ! its post-hoc coping

Clavicular fans show why the “chad” judge did not mog Clavicular
English

@BadreNicolas Yeah, it's just something I very rarely see as brought up, psychiatrists are conflated with psychologists, nurses, GPs/FPs. Can't say I've seen this with like, ophthalmology.
English

@GustavoidFring I am fairly certain that my colleague who wrote this shares your concern.
In the past 20 years, NPs have increased ~300% and are now about as many as psychiatrists in the US, about 40,000 each.
(Yes, there are many great NPs.)

Dinner with psychiatrists last night
“I think the problems with mental health are that:
1. Diagnoses are given without aligning with symptoms (e.g., mania for moodiness).
2. People get treatments that don’t make clinical sense (e.g., stimulants for psychosis).
3. Diagnoses are given for normal life events (e.g., PTSD for divorce).
4. Benzos and stimulants are prescribed with false reassurance (e.g., safe and effective).
5. We abandon the severely ill by refusing to use certain treatments (e.g., clozapine, lithium, and ECT).
6. Much of the budget is spent alleviating social issues (e.g., bad parenting, lack of housing, and violence).
7. We don’t call out malingering and secondary gain.
8. We can’t reach consensus on basic diagnoses.
Ugh… sometimes I feel like our field is a mockery.”

@YourBoyJemz interviewer is conventionally attractive, not hot but better than average, what made it a solid mog was the confidence & charisma, clav's autism really became obvious

@marcsh @Audrey15580540 @patrickberzai @RachelZader Not a ton tbh. I've gotten that sort of feeling after 3-4 hour cardio sessions, you get home lay on the couch and just sorta feel content & drifting

@Audrey15580540 @patrickberzai @RachelZader Not in how its generally been explained to me, inc Patrick's definition (which is the one I knew it as)
