Archaeologists in Switzerland have uncovered a remarkable 4900 year-old wooden baking peel at Olzreute-Enzisholz, dating back to around 2897 BC. Carved from maple wood and preserved in waterlogged, oxygen-free conditions, this tool remains almost intact an extraordinary survival from prehistoric times. Far from being a simple implement, the peel was designed to slide bread and pastries in and out of ovens, showing that early Bronze Age communities practiced advanced and nuanced culinary techniques. Its craftsmanship reveals not only practicality but also an appreciation for aesthetic beauty, with smooth curves and refined details reflecting both skill and artistry. This discovery challenges the outdated notion of prehistoric humans as merely struggling for survival. Instead, it highlights them as creative innovators and culinary artisans, whose ingenuity laid the foundations for the societies we know today. Ancient marble thrones located at the Amphiareion of Oropos in Greece 🇬🇷 The Amphiareion was a sanctuary dedicated to the hero Amphiaraos, who was revered for his prophetic and healing abilities. The sanctuary was a popular destination for pilgrims seeking oracular responses and healing. The site includes the remains of a temple, a stoa, and a small theatre. The marble thrones, known as prohedria, were seats of honor for priests and other important individuals in the theatre. The sanctuary flourished particularly during 4th Century BC. #archaeohistories
