It’s not about the money

Went to @WesternU for a full time research post-doc. Didn't expect to learn about how to teach😄. Was definitely worth the trouble as this course opened my eyes. Can highly recommend. Thank you @westernuCTL!

I am really annoyed by journals now REQUIRING graphical abstracts. I have never ever taken a look at them, and I find it a huge waste of time of my groups work time to try and make pretty pictures that are totally useless. READ THE ABSTRACT, it has all the info.

The peer review process is now a sham process at many journals. This is not just at journals on the “predatory journal” blacklist. Years ago, I served as editor of a special issue editor at Frontiers and discovered there was no way in their system to reject a paper! 4/

I'm concerned about the editorial process at Frontiers. A reviewer for a paper I'm handling recommended Reject. This review was deactivated and a new review commissioned (not by me!). Why? Is it to get two positive reviews, so the paper can be published, so they can make money?

A year and 3 months after completing my PhD, my last PhD-related paper was finally accepted for publication. A lot of memories and (hopefully) a bright future were created during that time. But it is odd to accept that such a big chapter of my life is now entirely closed😐.

I really enjoyed working with JJ. If you are interested in his research, I definitely recommend applying for these positions.
