@politicalmath Kazan didn't just hate communism. He testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1952, naming his own personal friends as communists. Many of those he named were subsequently blacklisted simply for holding politically incorrect opinions. Kazan never apologized.

@polarisraven13 @tylerrittenhou1 @Wizards_DnD We haven't been talking about naming in this thread, I don't care what it's called and I basically just play with my family, so I don't care what the community calls it, but when replying to the official D&D social media account I think it's probably wise to call it what they do.

@Guyface31 @tylerrittenhou1 @Wizards_DnD Idk... Just seems a bit funny to me considering 2014-2024 rule updates, and we don't even call it 5.5 like we do in the past... Which kinda tells me where the community stands on the 2024 core set. Forgive me though for I've been delving back into 2eAD&D & 3.5 Edition.

@polarisraven13 @tylerrittenhou1 @Wizards_DnD I'm not running 2014, so I am complaining. What is there to not get about criticising a new rule set for not having a full adventure module for years after launching from the biggest TTRPG brand in the biz? Seems straightforward. And yes, Dark Sun please.

I have been asking for a #DarkSun Campaign Setting since all the way back to July 22, 2022. @Wizards @Wizards_DnD I would really like it, and hopefully it not being Artificial Intelligence Slop either. Love You!! Also, would it be bad of me to ask for a 2024 core ruleset as a gift? I am poor. lol

@tylerrittenhou1 @Wizards_DnD Yes, and the only one of these books labeled as an adventure is Deadfall which isn't until September. Just wild that it will be 2 years since the 2024 PHB came out to get a full adventure module.

Assuming I don't get turned back at the airport for lacking a Real ID, I will be traveling to Cleveland on Thursday for National Review, to write a piece about finally visiting the Rock & Roll HOF, at a time it has ceased to mean much of anything. Who doesn't love Cleveland?

@marcuslemonis No, they are not tax. Not a theory, just not tax. Just because costs can go up and someone pays, costs can go up for reasons that aren't taxes (like tariffs).

Tariffs are a tax. Not a theory. Not a talking point. A tax. In business, when you raise costs, someone pays. The supplier, the retailer, or the customer. Usually the customer. The Constitution gives Congress the power to lay and collect taxes. IEEPA does not use the word “tax.” You can argue tariffs protect industries. They can. You can argue they create leverage. They have. But let’s be clear about what they are: A cost increase imposed by government that moves through the system. No drama. No conspiracy. Just economics and accountability.

@mualphaxi But that's the response that should happen in an emergency and in order to regulate trade, it needs to be dynamic and quick to respond to changes.

Gorsuch (1) and Roberts (2, 3) strongly suggesting that if Trump had only done what Nixon did (temporary tariffs at consistent, capped rates) SCOTUS wouldn't have taken the case. It was his madman routine of making up crazy new tax rates every morning that doomed him.

I don’t love tariffs I’m leery of Congress ceding authority to the executive branch I consider IEEPA a horribly written law But today’s ruling was wrong IEEPA gives the President power to “regulate … importation,” and that has always encompassed the power to impose tariffs
Stephen Hayes@stephenfhayes

Among the key questions now: How many congressional Republicans who secretly oppose Trump's tariffs -- there are many, including leaders -- will be emboldened by the SCOTUS decision to say what they believe? (My guess: Not many.)

What Dominic said … But if I thought tariffs were vital to the future of the U.S. then I would also be piping mad at the fact that the largest companies in the world are exempted, along with a million other waivers, exceptions, reversals, etc. In fact, it would kind of make me think that the people who say they love tariffs, don’t really mean what they say!!
Dominic Pino@DominicJPino

If I thought tariffs were vital to the future of the US, I would be upset that the government wasted a year doing them illegally when it could have done them legally instead.

@Bethie010 @MZHemingway No he isn't. The legislative process is what the admin is using. A law they wrote. They had all the time in the world to write and pass a new one if it was being misapplied.

Mike Pence comes out strongly against the dissenting opinion of Justice Kavanaugh, joined by Justices Alito and Thomas. Says their defeat in contentious tariff decision is a "victory" for the American people.
Mike Pence@Mike_Pence

Today’s 6-3 ruling by the Supreme Court is a Victory for the American People and a Win for the Separation of Powers enshrined in the Constitution of the United States. In Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump, our Supreme Court has reaffirmed that the Constitution grants Congress - not the President - the power to tax. American families and American businesses pay American tariffs - not foreign countries. With this decision, American families and businesses can breathe a sigh of relief. I’m proud of the work our organization @AmericanFreedom has done on this case through our robust amicus brief program to advance economic freedom and defend the Constitution. With this historic decision, America can now return to the pursuit of Free Trade with Free Nations under the Constitution of the United States!🇺🇸

It always feels weird to disagree with Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Alito... Yet, here I am. I'm sorry fellas, but tariffs are taxes and taxation is in fact a core power of the Legislative Branch. Citing an Amendment Madison proposed, as precedent, without addressing why it never passed is not originalism.
