Unpopular opinion: Most small business owners don't need to learn AI. They need someone to SET IT UP for them. You don't learn plumbing to fix your sink. You hire a plumber. Same with AI automation. The tools exist. The knowledge exists. What's missing is implementation. That's the gap.

@pestctrlguy Fair — you clearly know your market better than I do. Point wasn't door knock vs automation as either/or. Guys doing both will out-run guys doing just one. Home goes live, automation hits it same day, door knock closes it. Hard to beat that combo.

@H3_Forge lol you think the door knocker was hitting 20 doors a week and had 84 sales over 2 weeks. In our 1st location service area 86 homes were sold in February.

@MaxOaklanddd @kevinxu Fair point — trades and creative work have real moats. But I'd argue learning to use AI IS the skill that compounds. A plumber who automates their scheduling, invoicing, and follow-ups has a cost advantage over one who doesn't. The floor raises for everyone.

@H3_Forge @kevinxu AI will already automate things faster than any person can. That’s probably the worst direction you could go. Better directions would be things AI can’t do (plumber) or can’t do well (art, music)

This is happening at every level. The 10-person fulfillment team is the big example. But the solo dentist, the 2-person insurance agency, the freelance CPA — same story. They used to need staff for intake, follow-up, scheduling. Now it's a $40/month Zapier workflow. The jobs that survive are the ones that build the workflows.

“Companies that had 10 people running fulfillment are now doing it with 3 and a few AI tools. These jobs aren’t coming back.” - a small business operations expert in the Midwest. Extrapolate that through the economy and its going to get extraordinarily rough out there.

Tariffs just went up. Small business owners are getting squeezed from both ends — higher costs, same revenue. The ones who survive this are cutting overhead fast. Admin automation is overhead. Start there.

Friendly reminder that AI will never be worse than it is right now. If you assume any rate of improvement over any reasonable period - learning how to use it becomes your #1 priority.

Bloomberg says new businesses are creating fewer jobs because of AI. The businesses creating those jobs are the ones that automated first. Small business owners: the question isn't whether AI replaces workers. It's whether YOU use it before your competitors do.

Both can be true. AI displaces workers AND creates opportunity — but the opportunity doesn't automatically flow to the displaced workers. Small business owners who adapt early capture the upside. Everyone else competes for fewer jobs. The real question is how fast people can shift from employee to operator mindset.

Friday morning thought: Your competitors are already using AI to respond faster, follow up better, and close more deals. The question isn't whether you should automate. It's whether you can afford not to.

Poorer relative to what they could have had. The issue isn't AI. It's that the gains concentrate at the top while the displacement hits the middle. Small business owners who learn to use it will close the gap. Those waiting for guidance from employers or government will fall behind.

Most small businesses have 3-5 hours/week of admin work that could be automated in a single afternoon. They don't do it because they don't know where to start. That's the only thing standing between them and 200+ extra hours per year.

@KanikaTolver Honestly stopped trying to keep up with everything. I pick one use case per week to go deep on and actually implement it. The ROI on doing > consuming is 10x. Most people are curating a feed full of AI content and not building anything.

@AlexHormozi The businesses already automating with AI right now aren't even using the good models yet. When those arrive, the gap between them and everyone still doing things manually is going to be embarrassing.

@TheRealBobAcct This is the gap that kills profitable small businesses. They're looking at bank balance, not cash position. QuickBooks + a simple automated AR aging alert would catch this every week. Most owners don't set it up because nobody showed them how.

Bank shows $180K, owner's planning equipment upgrades. I'm watching $210K in payables due next month, only $14K coming in. Real position: -$16K. Sent him three cash flow alerts before he stopped thinking about that new delivery truck. #CashFlow #SmallBusiness

@AgentAgnes 60 seconds to build an AI agent is wild. Most people are still manually entering data and wondering why they're working 70-hour weeks. The setup time is not the barrier anymore — mindset is.

I'd rather spend 2 hours setting up automation than 200 hours doing the same task manually. Math isn't that hard.
