Education predictions for 2026: 1) Bridget Phillipson will NOT be Education Secretary on 31 December 2026. If Starmer is still PM (unlikely), it will be Georgia Gould. If it’s Streeting, it’ll be Peter Kyle. If it’s Rayner? Justin Madders.

Today was the day we’d all feared… the day Miles went to the vet and didn’t come back home. He was 18. A strong innings. He’ll be eating Dreamies in kitty heaven with his brother.

@BritainElects Well, Labour was right to call it a two-horse race between themselves and Reform… it was just that the Green horse was several furlongs ahead!

Suspect we will begin to see half a dozen current Labour MPs defect to the Greens now it’s clear they could win a by-election with ease in their new colours…

Are Labour genuinely confident, or is this a “nudge” tactic designed to nudge Green voters their way? We’ll find out soon enough…

Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer visits the Gorton and Denton constituency for the first time during Labour’s campaign to retain the seat in Thursday’s by-election. More @PA

Nearly 7 in 10 Brits experience the “Sunday scaries”, according to government research from 2022. Half-term is over, so teachers - what drives your Sunday scaries? Marking, planning, emails, behaviour? Or something else? And how do you cope with them?

In 2010, a starting teacher earned 87% more than the minimum wage (£21,600 vs £11,600). Now, it’s 38% more (£32,900 vs £23,000). Do we need to restore teacher pay to recruit the strongest teachers?

@vicgoddard Lack of follow-up questions in many parts of the interview was deeply disappointing - seemed the approach was “get through as many questions as possible” rather than a more flexible approach. But these are teachers first, interviewers second, so I don’t want to be hypercritical.

Putting my mortgage on Ed Miliband to be the next PM. I can’t see any other outcome. Prove me wrong. (This is not me saying I think he should be the next PM.)

I would be asking my History students to analyse the provenance of this article and consider whether it strengthens or weakens the argument. The author has not taught in a state school since (at least) 2012 I’ll leave you to decide what that means

Going to put a tenner on the Greens to win Gorton and Denton. Think the demographics play in their favour. And I expect Labour to mess up their candidate selection and come third.

I get another “No Caller ID” call. This time I answer. It’s the police. “Everything okay?” “Yes,” I reply, “I called by mistake. I was trying to get my phone working and accidentally set off an emergency SOS. I’m so sorry.” They are reassured. I apologise profusely once again.

Woke up in the middle of the night (hence the time of this post) and tried checking my phone for the time. But couldn’t get the screen to come on! Well, it was on 2% battery when I plugged it in to charge, maybe it just hasn’t charged properly. I try another cable - no luck.
