HCCLA has been made aware of a recent increase in detectives from local agencies attempting to interview Defendants who are represented by counsel. We encourage all attorneys to notify their clients of this practice and to remind them of their 5th Amendment rights.

We are currently working with a multitude of issues with the @HCSOTexas Jail that directly affect incarcerated defendants’ 6th Amendment right to counsel. We believe that the current conditions are violating that right.

Many of Harris County’s finest defense attorneys have devoted their careers to saving the lives of people the State of Texas seeks to execute, which is a thankless job regardless of how well they do this. This report by a social justice organization is not grounded in reality.
