The Rochester to Buffalo corridor in Western New York is now in a moderate drought.

A beautiful weekend is ahead, with warm, sunny days and cool nights. Temperatures will warm a few degrees each day heading into early next week, but humidity will remain low. Note, temperatures on the graphic are for lower elevations, higher terrain will be a few degrees cooler.

After spending much of the months of May & June running well below average, Lake Ontario is in the midst of an impressive turnaround. Average water temps today are now near peak warmth based on 30-year data (1995-2025). Lake Erie is doing the same. Climatologically, Lake Ontario tends to peak somewhere in the month of August.

Spectacular weather on tap for Independence Day. Temperatures will be mainly in the 60s around the start time of any fireworks displays this evening. While the region will stay mostly dry through the rest of the holiday weekend, heat and humidity will build, especially by Sunday.

It will become hot and humid this weekend with temperatures in the 80s to 90s across western & north-central NY. Even if it feels hot outside, rivers, lakes & streams can still be cold. Always wear your life vest & consider cold water protection gear. Cold water can kill. @USCG
