@HMof2 ABC has the final this year. It just rotates every year under this deal. TNT next year then ABC again & all of a sudden we’re already at the end of this deal! First three rounds are just split as 50/50 as possible between ESPN/TNT. Each get their own conference final.

As for why now (on top of the bad play): There were/still are a number of really strong head coaches on the market. You wait until after the season, you may not get the chance to hire the guy you want. #Isles, clearly, weren't willing to wait and see.
