Thinking about “Great Society Metros” (would also clump Baltimore and Miami in there) and how LA, JFK SkyTrain, PR and Honolulu are post-GSM fixed guideway systems. What would we call this gen?

Today we visited beautiful San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world. This country is located within Italy & covers just 24 square miles. Views from the top of San Marino are amazing! 🇸🇲 Their gas is also some of the cheapest in Western Europe @ about $6.95/gallon vs $8.70+ in Italy⛽️ 🇮🇹

this map literally does not correspond to geographic reality and the only reason they made it is to cater to stupid people with sub-80 spatial IQ who don’t even pay for the subway

@troyesivanmf @cafeviolenza I don’t know of any other city that has as complex of a metro system as New York, except maybe Barcelona. The old MTA map was simple and elegant, and conveyed complex interlining and express services in an intuitive way.

As a side sleeper with thick Polynesian thighs, I actually love this type of biz seat because the tray table tucks away to the side. I could give a shit less if someone can see me eat or that I’m watching Drag Race. As I don’t have a hard plastic tray slicing into my leg. 🔪

@ttcdoors @kaede106548211 Oh absolutely! Transportation strikes are a near constant in the EU, I can see why it’s such a lucrative market for Hitachi/Ansaldo.

The Paris example is really interesting. They had agreement with the union before they started. And everyone either got a package, promotion to management or moved to a more appealing/lucrative role/job. Phased in. Savings may have been somewhat delayed, but the lack of strikes etc probably saved them money from doing it in a way the union couldn’t accept. If you Google there are a few papers on how they did it and some of the more detailed information about the negotiations etc.

I realize platform screen doors are not necessarily ’do-able’ on every metro system (ie MTA), but for ones that have standardized car sizes and CBTC or a modernized ATC system (WMATA, BART, Miami MetroRail, LA Metro), why has there not been a push to add gates for those systems?

@BrandTran Low key hate these vinyl seats. I’m constantly straddling myself because if the bus driver slams on the brakes you go flying forward/sideways.
