Before our FLIP rover went off to TVAC testing, we welcomed the team from @HPE to test and integrate a payload on board the rover. HPE has been a great partner to Astrolab in the development of technology that supports mission operations, and is using Astrolab’s rovers as platforms for two main areas: 1. Investigating if modern, commercial computers can be used in space 2. Proving the value of edge computing on the Moon Initially, communication between the Earth and Moon will be expensive and time consuming. Bringing computing power to the lunar surface allows for data to be processed where it is generated, limiting the amount of data that needs to be relayed back to Earth. This will be a huge asset to the lunar economy as organizations seek to build infrastructure on the Moon’s surface. We’re excited to support HPE’s studies in advancing the future of lunar computing.
