Day 2 of our ongoing regional reflection meeting between @NGObureau, City/District NGO Monitoring Committees, key MDAs, and #NGOs operating in Tooro Sub-region is underway. Participants are, among other things, reviewing the NGO Act, Cap 109 and the NGO Policy, 2010 to examine their compliance obligations as well as their respective roles within the regulatory and operational framework. This initiative is premised on the complementary roles that @GovUganda and #NGOs play in advancing development and strengthening service delivery in Uganda.

🗣️Today, with the generous support of @IrlEmbUganda , we are convening a two-day regional reflection meeting bringing together the @NGObureau , District and City NGO Monitoring Committees, and NGOs operating across the Tooro Sub-Region. This meeting is designed to strengthen coordination and rebuild trust between regulators and #NGOs at the local level. Over the next two days, we will reflect on the practical challenges affecting NGO compliance and operations, clarify roles within the regulatory framework, and identify workable solutions that improve transparency, accountability, and collaboration. Our objective is clear: to create a more enabling, informed, and cooperative environment where NGOs can operate effectively while upholding the law and advancing development in Uganda 🇺🇬

Happening now: We are holding a validation meeting for our key thematic report titled “From Normative Commitment to Operational Reality: Human Rights Capacity and Institutional Effectiveness within JLOs in Lira, Pader, Moroto, and Kampala.” This initiative forms part of our broader programme, supported by @ADCinUganda, aimed at reducing human rights abuses and violations in Northern Uganda.

As the year comes to a close, our staff are holding an end-of-year reflection to take stock of our work in promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms for #HRDs and strengthening #CSO governance. These reflections are informing our priorities for 2026 as we deepen efforts to protect human rights and expand civic space in Uganda 🇺🇬.

💥We’ve wrapped up our 2-day end of year reflection, taking time to review what worked, the challenges we faced, and how we can strengthen our work going forward. We are grateful to the HRCU Board and our Executive Director for their steady leadership, and to the entire staff for their commitment and collective effort as we thoughtfully plan for 2026.

🗣️In a bid to strengthen internal capacity, HRCU staff underwent a two-day training on effective Monitoring and Evaluation. The training enhanced our ability to track results, strengthen learning, and improve the impact of our human rights and governance interventions.

By supporting NGOs to meet legal requirements and strengthening their engagement with DNMCs, we help create an environment where civil society actors can freely and confidently contribute to service delivery, advocacy, and community empowerment. 3/

improving adherence to the NGO regulatory framework, and ensuring that organisations are better equipped to operate transparently and effectively. Beyond compliance, these efforts are part of our broader commitment to expanding & safeguarding civic space in Karamoja region 2/

Our team spent most of this week in the Karamoja sub-region, specifically in Nakapiripirit & Moroto districts, providing hands-on compliance support to NGOs & District NGO Monitoring Committees ( DNMCs) in the area. This is aimed at strengthening institutional accountability, 1/

Abuse online causes real harm. Protecting women and girls from digital attacks is as important as keeping them safe offline. At HRCU, our Annual #WHRDs Conferences have long been platforms to strengthen protection and advocacy against digital violence targeting women and girls.

During the Kitgum engagements, we also met youth #HRDs who are helping survivors, speaking out against harmful practices, and reporting cases of #GBV. Through our access-to-justice project, we’re building their skills & connecting them with duty bearers to ensure timely action.

At @HRCUG , we remain committed to supporting Women Human Rights Defenders who work every day to address violence against women and girls. Their courage helps keep communities safe and moves Uganda closer to a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
