This task, at times, can take many hours but is an essential part of the process.

To ensure accuracy, election workers must balance counts by verifying the total number of ballots issued matches the number of ballots cast for all three types of voting offered to registered voters (early voting, absentee voting, and election-day voting).

Some counties may take longer to report unofficial results but this does not mean there are any problems with the accuracy or integrity of the election in those areas.

As you await unofficial results, know that Michigan’s decentralized election system means cities, townships, & counties have differing reporting timelines based on remaining lines, number of ballots cast, local procedures, availability of on-site media reporting, & other factors.
