My 'nurture group' absolutely LOVED le jeu des 7 familles. They have French once a fortnight as a non-assessed subject due to very low literacy skills. So it's no stress for me and pure fun for all of us. #mfltwitterati

@gianfrancocont9 One of my favourite activity of yours. It's so simple, my students love it and the gains are fantastic. I like to reuse it now and again as a quick starter to beat the forgetting curve.I am planning on using this activity at an interview lesson this week.

@missdcox Yes! This is part of our new approach to mfl. We teach past and future tense phrases from day 1, get students to get familiar and use them loads. Then when we teach the whole functioning of those tenses, they have something to anchor their knowledge onto. It works.👍

Been thinking about this today. Sometimes if we just say to students ‘it’s complex’ & leave it there, I think it’s OK. We’ve set the ‘peg’ in place so if they ever go on the learn about the complexity they have the start of something to ‘hang’ it on. missdcoxblog.wordpress.com/2015/09/07/loo…

@Missktripp Have you found something that works well? I have been on mat leave since the first lockdown. Now I am back teaching but children are wearing masks and we are not allowed to do choral repetition. I came to Twitter to ask exactly the same question.

@missdcox Absolutely! I had a trainee last year who struggled with emails and very basic word, PPT, excel features. It made both our lives so much harder. I suggested to training course to provide extra training for people who are not IT literate.

I know we all (us oldies) scoffed when we were made to do the ECDL as staff CPD but I do think there's a gap in competency around IT with teachers. I would include: * How to BCC/CC on email * How to schedule emails *Using Google (or other) forms for surveys, collating data

Those of you working from home, what are you doing this weekend to differentiate home work life from weekend home life?

@missdcox How do we grade this work if we have no certainty it's been done under exam condition? If that's what I am forced to do, I will do it and they will ALL without a doubt improve their grades! Ofqual needs to decide if they what pre or post isolation evidence.

So telling them they have to do more work and it contributes to their grade isn’t a good idea?

@jkfairclough @missdcox Exactly! My poor little boy. Since we had this email with those crazy expectations my boy has been getting a lot of screen time. Mummy guilt is HUGE! This has caused a lot of unnecessary stress in our home and a lot of frustration on my part. Do you need a head of MFL? 😘

@HRHofficial @missdcox It’s a very difficult time for us all but many of my teachers also have children to look after. My job is to support them as much as possible... not make it more difficult

My sister has the virus. It’s horrific. She is in lots of pain. 🙁

@HRHofficial @missdcox I’ve specifically said that teachers are not expected to mark work. Difficult balancing teacher wellbeing and parents who want learning to continue as normal.

@missdcox THE ISSUE! Other schools in our MAT had the common sense to ask staff not to set work that needs to be marked! I too many people in Chelmsford maybe. Does she live on her own or has she got someone who can get her stuff she needs?

@HRHofficial That’s awful. My sister lives over your way and it seems there are less supplies than over here. Marking is an issue!

@missdcox I am fine thanks.Can't find nappies, wipes or formula. Also trying to work out the logistics of setting work and marking the way our HT wants us to, whilst keeping our sanity. 😅 Can't wait for maternity leave!
