I felt a bit of a fraud last night, surrounded by journalists who risk their lives in war zones. I wrote about bananas in a Coventry warehouse. But...many thanks to @FPALondon judges for giving me the Economics story of the year. A genuine honour #FPAawards23

🦠Gut microbiomes have become *the* area of interest for doctors (and quacks on tick tock). 🦷🪥But how about oral microbiomes? Could the bacteria in our mouth be the key to finding out our likelihood of heart attacks or Alzheimer's? Or at least why our teeth rot...🧵1/2

@howard Yes, this is true. But they are customer facing roles. By definition, a remote office, is not customer facing. It is virtual. Anyway, many thanks for replying. I realise it's a bit of fun. I have sent you a DM on a more serious issue. Many thanks

@hwallop When you walk into an Apple Store, you're greeted by people in uniform. UPS drivers wear uniforms. When you step into the office of the future, you should be greeted by uniform

I'm on a website of @roam, a remote office software provider. On the "our team" page, all the execs are dressed up like they are on the Star Trek Enterprise. Is this a new thing in Silicon Valley? Or is everyone at Roam a weirdo?

@rorysutherland Is that Bruce McLaren fact true?! About believing people should have defecated before arriving at their workplace...

I think we should bring back the pissoir. The notion of "fairness" requires that there be a sit-down loo everywhere there is a urinal. But we piss more often than we crap. (Bruce McLaren wanted to ban sit-down loos at McLaren HQ, arguing that efficient people should have pooed before they left home). But pissing simply requires a funnel, a length of hosepipe and a drain, and maybe a patch of dockleaves. A poo-loo requires extensive plumbing, light bulbs around a mirror and fancy unguents. Hence this false equality simply raises the bar for installing a toilet, and hence reduces the number of available places to piss. Where is this going? With dynamic, localised pricing, Scots would enjoy near-free energy some of the time. The argument against this is that it is "unfair". But denying something to someone because other people can't benefit equally is perhaps not a sensible definition of "fairness".
Mighty Buddha@MightyBuddha01

@rorysutherland I do believe you folks, over the Channel, also have the option to have dynamic pricing with a provider, no?

One of the great wonders of life: the astronauts on Artemis II can make video calls with perfectly clarity and reception from halfway to the moon yet try to make a call on an Avanti train on the West Coast mainline at Runcorn and you’ll be lucky to connect by Watford.

Compared to the distress I suffered from age 7 when BBC continuity announcers daily persisted in calling a cartoon "Boss Cat" when it was patently called "Top Cat", this is manageable. The reason, as I only discovered after decades of trauma, was that there was (briefly) a brand of catfood called Top Cat, and the BBC thought that merely uttering these words would constitute advertising.

There comes a time in every young movie lovers life when they realize there are, in fact, no pink panthers in the pink panther movies. My 5 year old is learning this harsh truth as we speak.

In the 1970s, John Tovey was considered one of the best chefs in Britain. He was on TV, and his restaurant – Miller Howe in the Lake District – a gem. This is his “savoury cheese peach” from his 1979 cookbook. It is WILD

Proof the Hugo Spritz (elderflower & prosecco) is the new Aperol Spritz – and spreading like Japanese knotweed across the pubs & supermarket shelves of UK. 1st, Wetherspoons stocks it. Now, @AldiUK has got in on act and selling canned version.
