For future hackathons, what if we required all participants to stake 1 SOL along with their product submission? If the submission was determined to be in the bottom 50%, your deposit would get slashed. For startups in the top 50%, their deposit would be returned.

@NirbhikJangid @herz0g You're absolutely right! But the game theory of such a market is too chaotic to reasonably analyze! So we're experimenting with real USDC, on HackBet! To address your concerns, we've capped per wallet stake to 250USDC and implemented an unstaking fee to disincentivize gaming.

@HackBetter @herz0g how would you define if it’s legit? like anyone can spend paper money, no? even if there’s real money, people will try to game it - not necessarily every founder will be able to fight it out.

the downside is that then you have to judge every project for bottom/top 50%

@colosseum i dont think any competition should have a capital requirement to be truly fair HOWEVER you could request *the community* to stake the 1-10 SOL for their submission and return to the community + a stake fee if chosen to win the hackaton if its not, just return

@joeymeere @colosseum Cool suggestion. But defining slop on an ad-hoc basis is not gonna scale with 3k submissions. AI perhaps? But that'll also mean edge cases need to be considered. HackBet already built the first half for Colosseum. Would love to hear your ideas on flagging criteria.

@colosseum I’d imagine you’d want this to be a slop deterrent rather than disheartening to people giving a good faith effort Instead of bottom 50%, have judges flag obviously low effort submissions, and if enough judges flag then slashing occurs

@afscott Yes but existing solutions (aka binary prediction markets) are inherently incompatible for hackathons. (thin liquidity, hundreds of participants, profit focused) HackBet uses pari-mutuels to get around this, along with several other features, to align builder incentives!

@colosseum Seems like a great idea. The SOL that's kept could be split among the reviewers that had to judge these specific apps and decide it wasn't worth the time.

@xer0c @colosseum What about a refundable deposit + non-refundable self-staking to indicate commitment? This is already built on-chain. By HackBet.

@colosseum All that means is that the judges will have to review every single one of the submissions. EACH JUDGE. otherwise, how would you possible be considered impartial and*FAIR*. I get the point, but the judging needs to be more transparent to not be frustrating for the builders.

A 1 SOL fee on noise. We love it. Putting your money where your mouth is, is the ultimate conviction filter. It forces quality over quantity and stops the timeline from drowning in low-effort weekend forks. If a founder isn't willing to bet 1 SOL on their own code, they aren't building real infrastructure. We would gladly stake 10000 SOL on the basedbid submission today. 🟩😎⚔️

@colosseum Hey, we thought of that too! But slashing is too harsh on new builders! Make it a refundable deposit like we do on HackBet~ Submit something worthwhile, get it back. Ghost or forking someone else's code? Forfeit. Best part? Do it on-chain.
