It breaks my heart! He has been endlessly brave, frightened and heart broken by his abducted children 2 children. He said “I was shot in my leg, but with my two children still missing; I simply CANT heal…I just can’t” said the teary worn-out father whose only sons were abducted 23 years ago and still missing. They lives, but in the darkness of pain and poverty that has been imposed upon. At @AYINET we try so much to help them. We understand their struggle and they’re sinking in the sea of misery as their light of hope in life, in government and in everyone diminishes. I recently witnessed 2 parents jointly bought one 48 pages exercise book, and asked the salesman to cut it into half; so that it can be shared by their two school going children…this still happening in Uganda where government officials are living lavishly! There so many across all regions who have been sunk into deep poverty; and it’s even worst in society under the fog of war and decades of devastation (Rwenzori, West Nile, North and Eastern Uganda) One young man who was amputated by land mine asked me “Victor, you’re encouraging us not to give up. But how can we not give up on a country that has given up on us?” State perceptions shaped by state marginalization. Did you know of a community somewhere in Uganda where if government officials comes and park their cars, both women and men will be hanging nearby with their children. And as soon as the cars leave, they will all come and place their little babies in the car tyre marks or spots on the ground. Mythically, hoping that their children will get blessings and in the future own such cars, or at least become rich, brown, smooth-skinned and powerful like them. Even though we have done so much and I appreciate that we have helped so many; although I still I feel that I have failed them. I feel development partners too have failed them. I feel government has even failed them the most, and as a race we have collectively failed fellow human because them we have turned our backs on them and failed to get them out of poverty. In good faith, I am reminding our own government that they have a responsibility towards all citizens. The tens of thousands of those abducted during the war between the Government and LRA should be accounted for, or at least their suffering families be supported. We can’t pretend that the country is okay yet we’re turning blind eyes to the suffering of fellow citizens

Migration enables millions of people to improve their lives. But poorly governed migration is a cause of great suffering. A more humane & orderly management of migration can benefit all, including communities of origin, transit & destination. #MigrantsDay
