I farted this afternoon and Tehillah my four year old daughter ran away covering her nose shouting "mummy this is not funny na, what did you eat?" Even as an African Mother, I couldn't blame the innocent girl because when I perceived the atomic bomb I released, I wanted to run away from myself too. I've been drinking pap water. Not eating pap ohhh, just the water that sits on top after the pap settles. Someone recommended it to me and I thought, why not? What I didn't expect was the... aromatic aftermath. Turns out, pap water is fermented. And fermented things carry live bacteria and organic acids that go straight to work in your gut - interacting with your existing gut bacteria and producing gas. Sometimes smelly gas. This pap water that I drank produced "mummy, excuse yourself from the room gas" Before you judge me, this is not a bad thing. Research has found that pap water - called omidun in Yoruba or mmiri akamu in Igbo actually has the highest concentration of lactic acid bacteria of all the pap-related products tested, even higher than the uncooked pap itself. As someone who has dealt with Fluoroquinolones toxicity, replacing the good bacteria destroyed by the antibiotics is top of the agenda for me.
