@koestreicher34 Honestly a B-. They finally pushed the chips in but aren’t going far enough despite 40M in cap space available. Unless there’s a trade or big contract in the works then we went all in but downgraded the role player positions heavily.

@Dr_Derael @joakial_ No it’s hard to understand because the average American thinks the rich pay the entirety of the social welfare costs

@joakial_ I don't think this part is hard to understand, people just don't want to pay higher taxes for help out less fortunate people because they believe their comfortable lifestyle is entirely their own achievement, and not a societal one.

The UK triple lock is the singlest stupidest policy in the entire Western world, and the most damaging to the future of a country. Of course, it is also untouchable and almost undiscussed in the UK press. @mattyglesias does a big favour to the UK public here.

@VasilisLerikos @AdamBMore This is tough between Zeitler and Clowney. Honestly both have taken a step back so I lean Zeitler because a competent guard is more needed then an average or slightly above average pass rusher

@HalotiMatata @RockChartrand @SarasvuoJari The only other way for banks yes. Are we pretending that money didn’t move before banking? And poorer maybe, but worshipping wealth is a poor way to live indeed.

Rent, profit, and interest aren’t theft. They come from voluntary agreements involving property, risk, capital, and time. Pretending only physical labor creates value is childish economics. And if your rule were true, the first thing it would condemn is welfare, because that actually takes money from someone else’s labor by force. So the slogan doesn’t expose anything profound. It just exposes how little thought went into the premise.

@aki_being @RockChartrand @SarasvuoJari The only way to lend without interest is if banks take stake in what they invest in. So Islamic economics. A way less efficient way to allocate capital. A way to be poorer

@RockChartrand @SarasvuoJari True but interest is absolutely very much a bad thing there’s a reason so many Jewish people do well financially and they do not charge interest from each other as the Old Testament explicitly forbids usury

And remember the money isn’t really being spent to ‘house the homeless.’ It’s going to special interests within the Homelessness Industrial Complex who will be receiving wildly inflated above market salaries and fees for services.
Izengabe@Izengabe_

$1.9 billion to house 10,000 homeless in NYC hotels for 3 years is $190,000 per homeless person. Mamdani's contract will spend $63,333 a year ($5,277 a month) to house homeless in hotel rooms with no drug or mental health services. This is what Mamdani's raising your taxes for.

4 years for med school isn't the problem. The 4 years of undergrad + a de facto mandatory gap year (or two) is the elephant in the room. We should have combined medical programs that let you go from a high school diploma to an MD in 5 years, followed by 2 years of residency.
John Arnold@johnarnold

AI should allow med schools to rethink whether 4 years is still necessary for med school. If students can focus more on clinical practice and less on memorizing the Krebs cycle and molecular bio, many programs could eliminate a year, reducing both costs and physician shortages.

@HalotiMatata @feelsdesperate Governor of NY is Democrat. Governor endorsed the Mayor. Mayor of NYC is Democrat. They can work together. They have billion at their disposal to do what they and their backers wish. They can fund NGOs to get around the rules too. Your imagination is lacking.

@JacobAShell @_fat_ugly_rat_ arguably there is literally no mechanism which may give the Federal Government the authority to ever redraw borders of the states, I don’t even think a Constitutional Amendment. They are both sovereign and dependent. But I do think it should be attempted, it would be interesting.

@HalotiMatata @JacobAShell @_fat_ugly_rat_ For all 50 states and various territories to edit their borders, erasing several and creating several states, I think the only way it could get done is like a national convention where all states agree to the new borders and then getting their congressional delegations to approve

@feelsdesperate Just relocate them to where it’s cheaper. For example, Upstate NY. It’s cheaper, people are struggling, and infusing state funds into the people and money there would be a net good. And there is plenty of affordable access to NYC by bus and train. Shameful this is prevented.
