I had the privilege of witnessing "Anni" transition to "President Nasheed" in 2008 from a front row seat. I also witnessed how President Nasheed was deposed by a violent coup in 2012, a mere three years into democratic governance. I was the MDP Sec Gen from 2005 to 2008, and a parliamentary group member from 2009 to 2014. In 2018 President Nasheed was "forced" to hand over of the MDP party ticket to a proxy. President Nasheed survived an assassination attempt in 2021. He has survived all attempts by the dregs of dictatorship to eliminate his progressive democratic credentials.
