I just came back from a trip to Japan. The Japanese could figure out how to provide their citizens high speed rail. There’s no reason why we can’t. Don’t let Pierre Poilievre deny Canadians high speed rail. If we need help and advice from the Japanese, let’s get it.

When I was still in the university, (I can’t believe that season is now in the past, lol 😂). I was someone who didn’t start reading from the beginning of the semester. I attended lectures and listened in class, but I rarely went back home to revise. The only things that really stuck with me were the topics that genuinely fascinated me, and sometimes, I would do a little research on those. When exams approached, that’s when I began to read, usually about a week before. The night before an exam, I would start from the first page to the last page of the handout. I won’t say it was always effective. Sometimes, it didn’t work because the handouts were too bulky, but other times, it worked out. I eventually realized that I functioned best under pressure. It may not have made me an excellent student, but I was above average, and I still graduated with a Second Class Upper. It might not work for everyone, but I tend to perform more when the deadline is at hand.

I only took JAMB once, and I got admission with that particular result. The score I got in that JAMB was 229, and it was very surprising to me. Why was it surprising to me? I finished secondary school in 2016, but I wrote JAMB in 2019. From 2016 to 2019, I had no contact with books. All I did was go to work every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and sometimes I even stayed longer. So there was really no time for me to read. But my determination to get at least a degree was what pushed me. Even though I knew that finance was not forthcoming, because I understood the financial situation on ground, I still had to show effort. I wanted God to see that I tried. I was using just MYSCHOOL app. I paid #1000 for their all time subscription, I did not open any textbook. I was revising through JAMB past questions. For Biology, I had 10 years of past questions in my head, if you asked me the questions, I could answer them. I applied the same strategy to other courses as well, because I was not so good in calculations unlike theory subjects. So I focused on making a big difference in the courses I understood very well, which were English and Biology. When the result came out, my highest score was in Biology (65), followed by English (63), then Chemistry (54), then Physics (47). I got admission, and even though I was scared because of the financial situation on ground, help started coming. From 100 level to 500 level, people paid my school fees, not my parents. The only money my father gave me for school fees throughout my five years in the university was 30,000 naira. The rest of the fees were paid by people, people I did not even know, people I had helped before in small ways while i was working (like my cousin), and later came back to do something so magnanimous for me. It was a lot, but when I look back now, all I can do is give thanks to God for how far He has brought me. From that boy who was working in a pure water factory, working morning till night and earning peanuts, to someone who is now a university graduate with a good result.
