In the past week alone, HDC has hired over 400 new employees and approved over a 1000 promotions. The move comes ahead of the upcoming April 4 election & referendum. Speaking to Adhadhu on the condition of anonymity, a source reveals that promotions were given against company’s HR policies, at the behest of MPs and influential people pressuring the President’s Office. Since the end of the previous administration, HDC’s monthly payroll has increased from 27mil to 45mil a month.

HDC’s monthly salary cost has increased from MVR27m at the end of the previous administration, to MVR45m today. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, HDC officials tell Adhadhu the number of political appointees have increased several-fold within the organisation. Number of Directors (MVR54k salary) have increased from 12 to 35+, number of Deputy Directors (MVR45k salary) have increased from 4 to 40+, and there are over 45 Assistant Directors (MVR34k salary). The salaries of just these three positions cost HDC over MVR5.2m a month. Sources also reveal over 500 HDC staff have been exempt from official responsibilities and released for government campaigns, with the staff still able to claim overtime pay.
