The story of Mateusz Zukowski is similar in a more pleasant way.
Zukowski is 24 and Polish. His career began at Lechia Gdansk in his home country. He joined Rangers from the club in 2022 and was played as a full-back. He had only one appearance during his time in Scotland and returned to Poland.
When he returned to his home country, he was played as a winger. His performances were barely decent, only scoring three times in sixty-six games. Last season, he suffered a bad injury that kept him out for long spells.
Fate travels with Zukowski and he enjoyed a beautiful stroke of fortune when 2. Bundesliga side Magdeburg signed him for €250k during the summer transfer window. He didn’t play in the first 8 games of the season. Remember, he’s a full-back. The story soon took an interesting turn.
When he returned from injury, in what felt like an epiphany, Magdeburg converted him to a #9.
The result? Extraordinary.
He’s scored 17 goals in his last 18 games, and he’s the top scorer of the league despite his team’s overall struggles.
Everything has happened in less than a year.
