Completing the OPAL trial was a massive team effort. OPAL was led by IMH’s @Caitlin_Jones_, @DrChristineLin, @CGMMaher, @JaneJlatimer in collaboration with @AndMacUSyd, @osbornidayius, @bartkoes, @LaurentJBillot and Sana Shan

People in the opioid group had worse outcomes compared to the placebo group in several measures including pain, quality of life (mental health) and physical function in the long term.

Significant outcome for the management of #acutelowback and #neckpain showing #opioids can do more harm than good!

347 people with acute back and/or neck pain were randomised to either an opioid (oxycodone/naloxone) or a visually identical placebo, for up to 6 weeks. The results were unexpected.
