The research shows that slow-release opioids are no more effective at treating acute back and neck pain than a placebo.

This trail used the recommended dose range for oxycodone-naloxone combination from the Australian Medicines Handbook
"oxycodone/naloxone 5/2.5–10/5 mg every 12 hours; adjust dose according to response after 1 week or less"

@safesupplysaves the researchers wanted to focus on acute low back pain without an underlying pathology - which is about 90%+ of all cases from a quick look, 10mg seems to be a fairly standard dose for acute pain. @AndMacUSyd may have more info
