@srsattern @CHAHTA_TVSHKA And as @wayofftheres talks about, befriending your local emergency manager and team can mean impacting disaster plans/ getting gear/ gaining local influence

@srsattern @CHAHTA_TVSHKA Opposite of a business, but everyone should look up their local CERT courses. It's free basic level emergency management, but more importantly it's a way to actually network in your community. In my case, met a bunch of HAM nerds, local food suppliers, and Red Cross people

///Scalper Business Spotlight/// This weeks entry is a rockstar, both figuratively and literally. Allow me to introduce you to Frenchie's Rock Shop! Located in the beautiful PNW, Frenchie is owned and operated by our brother @FrancoisLalague. After retiring from the Army being stationed at Fort Lewis, he found new purpose in prospecting for gold in WA state. This led to pursuing a BS in geology and finding lapidary (which I can promise you dear reader, this writer did not have to look up in the dictionary) and beginning to make jewelry from the rocks he found. These allow him to focus his knowledge of geology into beautiful works of art. At least once a month he can be found rockhounding in the PNW, and sometimes venturing further with a goal of collecting stones from all 50 states or working as a TA at the local college, taking students to explore the area's beautiful mountains and passing along his knowledge. The store can be found on Etsy by searching FrenchiesRockShop or here on X @FrancoisLalague. Buy a loved one a beautiful piece of wearable art, I know they will love it! YAKOKE!

@hammerofvision I've found that both on here and in my day to day, a spiritually diverse group of friends not only goes further but also deepens my own faith. What's critical to me is if we can agree that there is objective ethics; if so, we can usually reason out our differences

I have X friends who are Protestant, Catholic, Orthydox, Mormon, pagan, heathen, agnostic, etc. I get along pretty well with all of them, and I'm glad they each have a different outlook on life. This isn't to say that all roads lead to the same end, that of course is not so. But I do think we can ally with each other around common goals, like raising families, animal husbandry, personal responsibility, and building communities.

@Windy_Wendigo 100%. The friend/enemy distinction is not along party lines

@Hanklin06 Yup, especially the ones who are so intermixed in a political ideology that it’s basically their whole personality. They will never come together with the “enemy”

@RobertSecundus Enlistment is now open to older ages, if you've got a clean record and are fit you can become a LEO, apply for seminary and become a chaplain, move to Africa and join a PMC or a cult.

@Hanklin06 Going deep into a lot of permaculture and sustainable small scale agriculture, hoping to start getting a lot of it into practice this year and in the coming years. Not optimistic of the future, and dying of hunger sounds like crap, so this is where I'm at 😆

@Hanklin06 Right?? These bad boys will graduate to some of the large 15gal fabric pots in a few weeks time I think, and from there I plan to take some from it now and again to plant in areas that need better soil retention, away from anything I'm growing at already of course lol

@Windy_Wendigo Agreed- but the personality cults and red team/ blue team mindset will likely be impossible to break for most people

I spend roughly $120 a month on @MonsterEnergy drinks. Double that if you count the energy drinks my Fiancé also gets, because neither of us drink coffee. It sounds absurd, but I'd wager just about anyone that drinks Monster every single day also spends right around that, more if they're buying from the gas station where a 16oz can is now almost $4. On a whim yesterday, I saw @Costco had their own line of Kirkland energy drinks going for $17 for a 24 pack which is enough to get my fiance and I both through an entire month if we double it. Bought two. Fuck it, that's a good deal. For that price, these are infinitely better tasting than all of the energy drinks on the market. Common Costco W.

@Nikthenord I don't disagree with your conclusion, actually. Local elections are critical (especially sheriff and school board). On a macro level, however, I think we're past the Rubicon. We need to refocus on community level organization while we still can

Ive been thinking about this a lot lately. That may be the case but I'm realizing that most of us probably haven't actually tried voting for the things that matter. For example DAs judges, mayors, county commissioner, sheriffs etc. The dems are great at it. Might be worth more effort on our part. . .
