//Hopoyoksa// April 2026 Hello Scalpers! I'd like to start by thanking all of the tribe for their interest in March's book Mongol Moon, and @mnsibley for joining us on our space and just being an awesome dude in general. As we continue with Hopoyoksa we will be alternating between a fiction book and a non-fiction work each month. Without further ado, please welcome @jcanada78, who has been putting in some serious work behind the scenes to help us make this thing a reality, as he introduces this month's book! Welcome to the first of what I hope to be many of these chats. I’ve been floating around the edges for a bit, and I’ve noticed a couple of things. First is your empathy and willingness to reach out to offer a hand to someone in need. If this were all I knew, well, that would be enough. Yet I’ve heard three things repeatedly from the folks at the top, to the patch holder and those on the periphery: training, medical and comms. These are the strengths that form the pillar we are building. We all should train both the body and the mind; we should all be able to plug a hole and set a bone, and we should all be able to call out for help when needed. This month we are looking at comms through the lens of The Guerrilla’s Guide To The Baofeng Radio by @brushbeater . Thus, let’s form a school circle as we got learning to do! I don’t know about you, but when I got my Baofeng, I kicked it on and scanned into NOAA and thought I did something special. Then I read Scout’s book and realized I had a whole lot of work to do. Comms is one of those things you must actively practice and learn to become proficient. Then I read it again. It covers everything from turning it on and general operation to comms planning, from report handling to encryption. Then I got a notebook and started taking notes. I never have either far from the radio. It’s that valuable as a source/reference material. NC Scout seems to be a man of many talents. Coming from the pointy end of the spear in the GWOT, it feels like he’s got his hands in a lot of pies. More importantly, is his willingness to share and teach what he’s learned. We’re grateful for that, as we are all better for it. I swear I saw a video of him tracking drones with a pager, a Gameboy and some speaker wire. From his books, the radio contra podcast, training courses, and the Brush Beater store, he’s got it covered. Comms, gadgets, NVG/thermal optics, and much more. If we were building a team, I would definitely want him as our comms and tech guru. As I’ve mentioned, I hope this is the first of many of these chats as Hopoyoksa gets going. A little insight to my life: I have a lot of irons in the fire, and there’s always more work to do. Finding a work/life balance doesn’t really exist in my world. I’m often strapped for time and energy. I’m grateful for everyone who helps me on a daily basis. I couldn’t do it without you. I’m delegating right here and now: if you’re in my DM’s with any issues, patch enrollment, etc… or I need to get back to you. Please contact @SCALPCOM - they will get you handled. It’s all very important, I just don’t have two of me. The teams are wonderful and I am grateful for their expertise and professionalism. Please especially contact them if you’re a subscriber and haven’t gotten your ghost dance patch, or if we are discussing any details of the powwow/hosting a regional satellite. This is big enough that there isn’t enough of me to handle it all, and this is me relying on the teams and all the wonderful people in the tribe to work together. I gotta handle executive level decision making, I cannot handle every decision. I have an organization who I trust to safeguard the tribe to the same extend that I would personally. I love my family, friends, and the tribe. Frankly, most things outside of that hold little importance to me any more. I’m doing everything I can to make this happen. Let me tell you a little bit about my week: today I got coverage for a gig that I frankly cared less about. I’m exhausted. I need to unload my car and clean it extensively. Tomorrow? Work. The next day? Work. All day, no breaks. Thursday? Finally off. Probably chores. Family time, no business - I need to ship some stuff IYKYK. Friday? Travel. All business. My week is shot. Then I’m back later this month. There’s not really any wiggle room for me. This isn’t me complaining; this is me explaining that I don’t understand what life is like with any kind of regular schedule. Thank you for bearing with me, sincerely. True story: During the rehearsal I had some complete asshole sales guy call me to tell me that they had a sales agent waiting at my house. The hot coal was grasped tightly the second that rat bastard got snippy with me. Don’t make a problem where there isn’t one. Don’t create more work, we got plenty. Handle it. Don’t be annoying. Be patient. Bug me if it’s important. I always got your back.
