Saying something louder, longer, more times, and with more anger doesn’t make it more true. I already posted this once, but I think it most succinctly summarizes my feelings. You can keep screaming into the void. I’m not listening. And neither, I’m pretty sure, is anyone else

I’ve had my mom watching Chicago PD and Chicago Fire for years and she STILL uses the terms ‘fireman’ and ‘policeman.’ Yesterday she literally referred to a “female policeman,” and I was just like, Detective Kimberly Burgess and Lieutenant Stella Kidd would be appalled.

@HannahtheNinja @msmandijmoore Some characters I enjoy more than others. If I really can't stand a character, that means the actor is doing one heck of a great job! Let's not confuse disliking a character vs disliking the actor. So many can't differentiate between fantasy and reality.

I don’t understand why some of you are out here watching TV shows with characters you hate…

I will say that there are some characters I love that I wouldn’t want to hang around with in real life. Dwight from The Office comes to mind. @msmandijmoore I mean, valid, I guess. I can’t relate. I have enough reasons to be angry in my life that I don’t want to subject myself to it voluntarily. (But also I can’t recall a single TV character that I hate. So maybe my standards are too low? Or maybe I just know what I like)

English has tons of heteronyms where the stress completely changes the meaning + part of speech: Noun → stress on 1st syllable Verb → stress on 2nd syllable So: • We REcord (noun) amazing reCORDS (noun) • But we reCORD (verb) those records 📼 More super common ones for students: • PREsent (gift) vs. preSENT (give) • OBject (thing) vs. obJECT (disagree) • CONvict (prisoner) vs. conVICT (find guilty) • PROduce (vegetables) vs. proDUCE (make) Once students hear the pattern, it clicks fast! Helps so much with listening & speaking confidence.

Something interesting you might not have realized: A number of words in English are NOUNS when you stress the FIRST syllable... But VERBS when you stress the SECOND syllable. -SUSpect/susPECT -CONflict/conFLICT -PROtest/proTEST -CONvert/conVERT

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but interacting with scammers AT ALL lets them know your number is active and that you’re responsive to unknown contacts, so then they can sell your info to other scammers. It’s best not to engage at all.
