Positive Change

@HappyHatton

A mother with a keen interest in family law, I hope to become a family law barrister. Positive change today for children equals a brighter future for tomorrow.

This is for all the parents out there going through pre birth assessment or proceedings at birth. Today my 3year old sons care order was discharged. We were in court for removal when he was just 12 hours old. You can do this but you have to work with and except the help.

@TerryGalloway As a mother with children in care, I often wonder if families realise just how special those moments truly are, it's so easy to get lost in it until you lose it. I'd do anything to go back to these moments. I'm praying il get to do it again one day with mine.

As a child in care, when I saw families like this it would remind me of what I did not have. Its amazing what children imagine is the perfect family.

The next table is a man, woman and two children around 7 and 11 eating their packed lunch and just being a family. ❤️ is in abundance. It makes me so happy😍 to see, but also sad 😥 because some of our children will never experience that ❤️ or those kind of family relationships

Having been taken into care and abused and knowing the depths abusers will go to to be close to children. Taking rights and oversight away worries me. Vulnerable parents need protecting and children should never be able to opt out of independent oversight of their care plans.

@N_A_I_R_O @article_39 As a mother with 2 children in long term foster care I'm heartbroken and praying this dosent happen. The IRO is only person who has truly represented my children in the revolving door of social workers they've had (4 in 3 1/2 yrs). Each new sw fails to read files throughly.

A summary by Carolyne Willow @article_39 . ‘Removing independent reviewing officers (IROs) from all children in care is a drastic and dangerous move. IROs are experienced social workers who scrutinise local authorities’ care and decision-making in respect of individual children’

@jsnbarn The IRO regually reminds SW about what she's supposed to be doing and what help My children need, sadly the sw isn't the most reliable due to the 31 cases on her load she often forgets to inform family of appointnents, meeting or contacts times and dates. IRO is investigating

@jsnbarn As a mother of 2 children in care, I think IROs are the only people who have children's best interests at heart, my children have had 4 sws and 3 IROs current one is excellent and regular sees my children previous 2 never went to meet them. I'm thankful that she's speaking 4 them

@tummumcic I wish, sadly my experience has been that foster carers think mothers are bad people, my children have had 6 so far in 4 years only 1 of them has spoken to me like I'm a human, the rest have spoken to me like I'm a monster and a danger, I'm not I just had no money or support .

I wonder if it crosses foster carers minds that there’s a mum out their that doesn’t stop thinking of their child. One that wants to die, one that can’t function, one the cries to sleep every night? Not slating carers btw. How does it affect them? How do they deal with that?

*The care system for children is broken. *Much of the care system is privatised (foster care, children's homes, special schools, mental health services) *While children and families suffer, private companies are making millions in profits. *We need to talk about this.

@MartinBarrow For social workers to allow children to be children without trying to force them to grow up, my children entered care age 5 &6 there now 9 & 10 and sound like social workers, this is not how 9 &10 year olds should talk, they assess there own behaviours, this is not normal.

Ahead of its actual publication, let's play fantasy Care Review: what would be your 1st recommendation? I'll start: local care for local children and an end to the dehumanising process of transporting children in care hundreds of miles from their families and loved ones. Go!

@MartinBarrow Recommendations from “expert” assessments for children and families have the services ready to implement those recommendations. Eg Forms of therapy not available on the NHS. This needs to be in place and signed off prior to any orders being grated.

Shaking, I'm nervous and stressed. What if they see this and take baby 3 too. Today I'm truly heartbroken and lost. People shouldn't have to feel this way, there needs to be compassion and support not fear. I'm not going to delete it as I've annoymised my account but I am scared.

That fear of sws and iros reading it and knowing its me, I still have that fear of him knowing I've spoken up, I still fear losing my children forever. I have baby 3 now, new partner, new life but that fear is crippling me. My anxiety is through the roof and I haven't stopped

There's a lot of talk about how the current famous Abuse case is going to have a negative effect on abuse victims in the future coming forward and feeling heard. But I've heard so many people express there own abuse experiences b/c of this it has actually encouraged me to open.

@natalyanderson Thank you for reading it, I didn't realise how much I had to say until I started. But I hope it encourages other people to speak out too. I'm shaking and feeling very emotional but I feel so much lighter, it's such a heavy weight to carry mentally and emotionally.
