The Happy Hedgehog Rescue

This past week the rescue has been viciously attacked on Twitter by a local "rescue", as have many others. I have been accused of animal abuse and killing hedgehogs by using plastic tags to their spines. Here is a statement from the RSPCA

Just been up to top-up the food in our hedgehog feeding station, and look who I found when I lifted the lid... Yippee for this and every other #hedgehog who has made it through this wet soggy winter! 🦔

This cutie little pudding is suffering from ringworm. Her spines are fine but you can see she is missing fur from her sides. She is still on a treatment plan but hopefully soon she will be even more boootiful with a full skirt of fur.

TWO AGRICULTURE STUDENTS BEAT SHEEP FOR 30 MINUTES THEN BLEW IT UP WITH FIREWORKS Leighton Ashby, 22, and Oakley Hollands, 20, both from Kent farm backgrounds and studying at Plumpton College, chased a ewe near Ditchling Beacon in the South Downs last November. They punched and kicked the animal repeatedly, smashed its head against a fence post until it was concussed, then inserted fireworks into its mouth and anus before detonating them while filming. Hollands was heard laughing and shouting “kill it, kill it” throughout. Judge called it “callous and sadistic”; Ashby jailed for two years, Hollands 20 months in a young offenders’ institution.

@HappyHedgehog3 I found this a fascinating presentation @Dr_Pindsvin. Even simple things like the hum from my LED lights & the noise produced by the incubator fan, these may all impact #hedgehogs This research will hopefully find ultrasonic deterrents for hedgehogs to avoid road deaths 🤞

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS - PART 1 How well do hedgehogs hear? Humans hear up to 20khz, dogs up to 45khz but hogs hear from 4 - 85khz which is amazing!!! This is important research as noise impacts hedgehogs health in captivity by inducing stress related diseases.

Captain Jack Harkness our beloved Jack Russell has gone. He waited until i came home and he died peacefully in his dada’s arms within an hour of my return with @scottmale Dixie and Tito around him. He was a good boy, a loyal friend and our Jackamo for 18 years. We are very sad but grateful he died of old age and did not suffer. . #love #dog #companion #friend #loyalty

This weekend I'm attending the 3rd International Hedgehog Conference. As a rescue it is really important to stay up to date with the latest research to give our struggling hedgehogs the best chance. A full on weekend so I will be unavailable during the day Saturday & Sunday.
