@joey_dwy @dtovitz @VandyOnSI Great article. The other thing about Braden this year is I feel like he’s faster and/or a better base runner. I guess that’s a hard stat to quantify but it’s been a noticeable improvement. Would love to hear if that’s something he’s worked on.

If Vanderbilt’s offense was going to improve, Braden Holcomb had to improve himself. He’s done that and its offense as a whole has followed.

For people who have asked or speculated about the impact of moving the fences in: I do not know the impact on the park factor, but during SEC play Vanderbilt has 17 HRs in 9 road games and 22 HRs in 11 home games.
This suggests it’s not notably easier to hit HRs at Hawkins

Vandy also had a smart approach to Riojas because he tends to attack in the zone early in the count and throw chase pitches deeper, so they tried to attack early knowing it would likely be in the zone, especially with some of their hitters who are prone to chase

Maybe a hot take but I think going 3-3 against Bama and Texas is more likely than going 6-0 against South Carolina and Missouri.
But the Bama series is the most important one. Would be huge for the RPI

Just ran this on a couple different analytics sites and got somewhere between an 8-10% chance of sweeping both Mizzou and South Carolina.
Winning enough games the next two weekends is an easier path! Vandy doesn’t want to rely on having to get sweeps
