@Kyrovannn Even the present ding did this in last championship. In his prime, I will take him over magnus even to defend engine prep where you are clueless. The thing with magnus is that he has great memory and plays dry, so he never finds himself in these positions.

Ding liren once played a game vs hikaru in candidates , where hikaru was up 1 hour and trapped ding in a unknown convicted prep. Ding just found all top moves over the board and made the draw. Hikaru himself praised him after the game for this. Ding was a champion.

Here's the full quote: "The fact that Nakamura is going around playing these, as he calls it himself, referring to something I said many years ago, Mickey Mouse tournaments in order to qualify for the candidates, in order to play the 40 games that are required by FIDE. I think that's absolutely- it's wild. It's insane, why would you require somebody who's very clearly good enough to play in the candidates, why would you require him to play these tournaments which he doesn't really have time for? Do chess players these days just delegate everything to their seconds without applying their own minds?
This is like a senior SWE giving a pass on a PR without taking the time to reviewing it and then blaming the junior when there is a prod issue later. Probably worse.

@eternalhopeoaks Might seem stupid, but I would have preferred caruana even more. In WCC time control, caruana struggles a lot (evidently), but again these people say that gukesh is not good with less time , lol.

must admit that if sindarov qualifies to face gukesh (which looks a distinct possibility now)

Nakamura has very anti gukesh style. He sits tight and defensive and pounces if you make a mistake, but nobody can convince me that he can take risks in opening and win consistently, which is a problem for most players in that gen. Sindarov is just a heavy favourite now.

I think I have said before that nobody's crossing 2810 for at least the next 4-5 yrs, not even a Carlsen reincarnate. It is ~2760ish which is equivalent to the 2800 of the past decade.

@gutsy_gambit Wait why are we pretending like GCT chess is some godsend tournament. It has the same value as other standard control tournaments. Western players prefer it bc it's in vicinity and pays decent. What else am I missing?

I thought it's fair knowledge at this point that Arjun and GCT aren't in good terms since the time Arjun rejected the wild card invite after being snubbed for the full tour in 2025.

To be clear, I didn't mean that Sindarov doesn't deserve it. He is THE form player in the chess world even if you ignore the 3.5/4 start at the candidates. But my point is that if being THE form player was the criteria, Arjun should have received a full invite in 2025. Or 2024.
